I have the Dyson Animal cordless "stick" version. I off using it as a stick and then switched it over to handheld with the crevice tool and have found myself using that to quickly grab fur balls and dust bunnies where they gather under chairs or along the edges. It recharges quickly and holds the charge pretty well, thought I think you can replace the battery if/when it declines I've had mine a couple fo years now -- bought it after we put in hardwoods. It can be used on a rug with the proper attachement.

I have a Dyson cordless stick vac and Shark corded stick vac. The Dyson is several years old whereas the Shark is several months old. I like the Shark's performance better, it has better suction/power and an excellent LED light on the head that shows every little nook and cranny when you are vacuuming. The Dyson's advantage is being cordless. I actually put the Dyson in my son's room when I got the Shark though, I like it that much better.

Thanks all, I was very interested in the cordless models. But I read the run times seem to be very short. It sounds like that might not really be an issue. I will check into the shark as the price is more reasonable than the dyson for me.

I have a dyson stick exactly like lascatx describes. It is certainly convenient and I find that it will run well for a reasonable period. I will not appreciate the cost of eventual battery replacement. The one issue that others as well as us have noted is that the trigger must be held on (presumably to conserve battery). Perhaps newer units have changed. We actually have several Dysons because DW is nuts. I doubt that their expense is justified and in any case, the bagless concept is actually an annoyance (frequent, messy empty cycles) rather than a feature in my opinion. But the small container for the stick helps with size & weight, and dust bunny type cleaning creates less obnoxious messes than with the bigger vacs so convenience wins out.

My daughter in law swear by this cordless stick vac. She said it held a charge long enough to vacuum their condo (a little over 1,000 square feet of hardwood floors). Makita stick vac

I have a Shark corded stick vac-only for a few months but really like it for suction and getting under beds and other furniture. It sucks like nobody's business!!

What I don't like is the weight of it. The motor is in the handle part & it's a little heavy. Not a big deal but I use it for 2 floors and by the end my arm is tired, especially doing stairs. Probably need to lift weights more often :(

The other thing I dislike is the cord-it tangles & knots. I have a Shark steam mop and the cord does the same thing. It doesn't lay nice & flat but curls & gets snagged on furniture & baseboards. The trade off is a cordless that may not keep a reliable charge for me to complete vacuuming of 2 floors. I have a cordless broom that's great but is already slowing down by the time I get to the 2nd floor. I don't have time to let it re-charge, that's not how I roll, lol!

Dysons here also. One stick with all attachments, carpet and harwood, one small hand held, and 2 uprights (2 different homes) all purchased on sale along with the 20% off at Bed Bath & Beyond.

Dyson is advertising a new model with a 40 minute run time. I think the older model may have been up to 20 minutes (less on the turbo or boost setting).

I was looking for something very light. I found a Von Haus on Amazon that even has a HEPA filter. It's corded. So far, it has worked very well. I used to have a cordless, but it didn't do as good a job.
