daskitab, From my experience Hens and Chicks can grow fairly quickly in favorable conditions. It depends if you have them outside , what climate your in etc. I would start now if only to allow for trial and error. I have propagated Hens all the ways you can and I've had most success with them growing from a a stem cutting given to me by a neigbor. I simply place it on some soil and let it do its thing. I only mist it once every few days. I will more as summer gets in full swing. GOOD LUCK.. And you will have success as long as your patient. I think the best advice I can offer is DONT OVER WATER !!!!! They can survIVE underwatering but over watering will definitley kill them ..

Alright, so before we get started, note that I am not an expert on succulents! I only know the basics, and I am not good at identifying! So, as wild guess in terms of ID, I'll just guess it's some sort of Jade. The picture is kind of dark, so I don't know for sure. For care, I would slowly get it used to full sun, so it doesn't sunburn. You will need as much light as possible. in the end. Try for a Southern or Western exposure if you have one. If the leaves brown and crisp up, it may be sunburn. If that happens, you will need to move it down a notch in terms of sun exposure, and work your way back up. Soil is a big thing with succulents. Most come in thick, heavy potting soils meant for flowers and the like. It holds a lot of water around the roots so that they can't breathe. As a consequence, rot will set in, and the plant will most likely die if left alone. If you have that kind of soil, you will need to repot at some point to keep your plant at top health. The best kind of soil to use would be one that contains more inorganic material (rock, grit, pumice), and less organic material (peat, compost). I don't know the specific kinds of mixes, but hopefully some one will come along who does. Usually, you will have some crushed granite, some perlite, some pumice, or turface, and maybe even a little pine bark. This kind of mix allows the water to drain out quickly, so rot will not set in, although at first it doesn't seem like anything would grow in such a mix! So, some of the big things are: Lots of sun, and a good soil mix, and a few people to show off your plant to! Good luck! ~palmsandsnow

Thanks for the feedback. What I meant was I water it once every two weeks until water drains from the three holes on the bottom. Just enough water until it drains. It's in a room with south facing Windows and also fluorescent grow lights for at least 6-7 hours a day but when there getting actual indirect sunlight I shut the lights off. Before I got the lights all my plants looked a little bad but they have all shown new growth since the lights. Except these two with the same problem....the soil is cactus soil with equal parts perlite. It is only indoors. And it gets no food....

@Polina: I live in MI and grow a lot of catts --- mainly minis. I have some I grow under fluorescent shoplights and others I have in front of my SE facing sliding glass doors with no supplemental lighting. I've bloomed them in both locals, so it "doable". Jane there is no reason you should hesitate saying "no". If I were in your shoes, I might say "Well, I can try attaching it to one of the trees outside but it will have to fend for itself -- I have no room indoors." I would not give up any of my indoor "real estate" except for close family or very good friends .... and even then there would be a limit. The only way those snowbirds would have me taking care of any of their plants would be if they paid me -- and paid well. Arrogantly presumptuous on their part. I'd say get them in spike, take them down to the local farmers' market and sell them. Then when the snowbirds return, tell them a cold front did them in. (Really could use a laughing devil emoticon right now.)
