I planted 7 roots - I'd have to look back when I did it, but maybe mid-April? Iirc, one sprouted around 10 days later, and they have been gradually taking turns at sprouting. The last one finally started showing signs of life last week - and the early ones are already over a foot tall. I soaked them all in worm poo compost tea as I was prepping the trench - no idea if that made much of a difference or not. ;) This was in a lasagna bed that I started prepping in the fall.

So far so good! I have planted 17 shrubs and trees since the last week of June and so far all are alive with no signs of dying. They even have new growth. I planted a shantung maple, fig tree, pomegranate bush, 9 stevens hollies, 2 italian cypresses, and 3 crape myrtles of the dynamite and red rocket variety. It has been a super hot summer with most days lately over 100.

I am not quite ready to un box my stored tubers yet, but what I do is place each tuber in a sandwich sized baggie. with some moist - not soaking wet - peat moss. It allows me to have 20-40 tubers in a standard tray. I keep the baggie mostly closed until I see sprouts, then open it so the sprout doesnt rot. I keep some in a south facing window, and others under fluorescent lights. The baggies take up a lot less room than pots do. The fast growers end up getting moved into pots, but space is at a premium in my growing area, so pots are on an "as needed" basis.

I revisited various directions about growing seeds and it seems the light conditions may not be critical until I see green???...and that heat may be more important at this point. I moved my seeds to the top of the gas heater (where the cat likes to sleep)...I hope this is a good idea as it is the warmest spot in the house ... house temps are about 65 degrees...
