please help me identify a cabinet door like this one
Comments (3)Yes, you have a good eye. Unfortunately, Aya no longer has a distributor on the East Coast so I will have to pick up doors in Toronto. They have been great about pricing doors and answering my many questions, but I don't think I can carry more than one wall of doors back down in my minivan full of kids and hubby, so I was thinking of getting the island and desk area in a dark stain locally to complement the glazed latte doors that I currently have. If the door styles are similar but not exact, I think that will work....See MoreFast advice needed please!
Comments (5)Yes, I have done it. So have many others here on GW. As others say, measuring and extremely careful planning and attention to all details is very important. If you ensure that all of that is done correctly beforehand, you should have no problems, if the company is reputable. Have everything in writing, of course. Your option #2 sounds the best. I am a super control freak, so I did all the measuring of my space myself, and checked and double-checked and triple-checked the cabinet order before placing it. Ask your designer if you can check the details of the order yourself if you are worried. Do not rush this step. It took a lot of number-crunching, brain-hurting, eye-strain time, but it was worth it in the end. I've heard many reports of errors in translation here on GW, so I don't know that I'd totally trust the designer, unless you have in writing that she/he will pay for or make right any errors in the order/measuring. (That's why I did it myself.) Mine all came out beautiful. Everything fit. Nothing was incorrect or missing. No problems in shipping despite a hurricane at the time. Finding a great local installation team was also key. Having detailed plans helped them too. Good luck! How exciting!...See MoreFrench Canadian cabinet maker - heard of it?
Comments (3)We have had Cuisistock cabinetry for the last 28 years, and are the sole distributor of them on Long Island, NY. we love their cabinetry, they provide several construction options in all price points for the homeowner. they will also do custom color matches, and have a 'pick a panel' program for their doors. they essentially are a Custom cabinet line in a Semi Custom price point. definitely a must see when shopping for your new kitchen or vanity!...See MoreCan I create a country kitchen with Maple?
Comments (11)With all the oak kitchens being torn out right now, have you considered purchasing used cabinets the builder could repurpose? If they were structurally sound he might be ok with it. Another option is hickory if they offer it and you like it. I have seen that done recently but might be more "country" than you are looking for.' Its really hard to help when you haven't posted any information about what choices you have. The door style, house style and other things like flooring and countertop choice make a big difference, also. It sounds not like you really can't get a nice country kitchen but just that you can't get oak and you have decided that is all you really want. There really is no cure for that, unfortunately. However, if you change your mind and decide you really do want a nice country kitchen even if it is not in oak, post some photos of your choices and I am sure many will help you come up with an awesome kitchen that meets that criteria if it is anyway possible from the choices you have. Unfortunately it sounds like you are suffering from the fact that although there is nothing wrong with oak, it just isn't very popular right now, and the builder is going with a supplier that offers choices that will appeal to a wider range of people right now in order to sell more houses. I am a little surprised he will not order one more time from the old supplier to please you, though, esp if you purchased the house based on those choices. This definately IS a buyers market, not a sellers, and buyers can demand more than they could have at many times in the past when the opposite was true. Did you give him your cabinet choice before he changed suppliers? Are the old suppliers even still in business? Sue...See Moredaisychain Zn3b
