Keep in mind that the color will look different if it is sampled on a painted wall. You should be able to mix colors and have it color matched--although depending on the skill of the salesperson, the match may not be perfect. We have done colors at 50%--I think that also depends on the salesperson as to how they do it. For us, we had SW softer tan mixed at 50% and it was just lighter than the original shade. I had sooooo many paint samples up--I did large portions of the wall in the samples--but having the samples side by side and doing them on top of our existing yellow walls really affected how the color looked and made it hard to judge how the end result would look. I ended up picking my favorite and painting as much of the wall as the sample allowed to get the best idea of how it would look. The svelte sage and grassland were definitely way too gray in my house. If you do a search, there have been other posts on greens--I know it was helpful when I was trying pick a green. I think I even had a thread and someone suggested a nice Behr color or maybe a lowe's color--it didn't work in my space as I needed to coordinate it with a tan adjoining wall--but it was nice--I just can't remember the color.

Those colors are really pretty! On my monitor they look like they have a lot of grey in them. Do they look like that in person? The pic of the Baguette is pretty close to what it looks like IRL and this room gets LOTS of light. We also used Camelback (den & foyer), Whole Wheat(master BR & a couple of baths), and Believable Buff (hallway & stairway). They are all from the same color strip. Paint color most often looks different when you get it on the wall because the lighting in the room affects the color and so does the undertone, the underlying color your eye reads which is impossible to see on a small swatch. Why some grays look blue, others yellow etc. Also, the walls are vertical and that's seen differently than what you're holding in your hand with light overhead. Amount of natural vs artificial light in a room can affect color too as does the color temperature of the bulbs. What I did was paint 24 x 36 poster board samples and tape them up. That's a good way to see how the color will look in the room and you won't get confused with too many colors on a wall. F&B paint has so many colors in the mix some of them change completely through the day. It's not easy paint to work with until you get to know it. The free color card isn't accurate but the fandeck is and they have sample pots ($6) best of all. Paint brands vary as the color of the base varies in whiteness and the colors also vary with how many different pigments are mixed in to get the color. Most paint brands mix 3-4 pigments. Some of the full spectrum (no black) paints have many more than that and the highest end of those -- super premium brands like Donald Kaufman and F&B can have as many as 12-16. The biggest difference with F&B is that it isn't mixed at the paint store. They are one of the few brands that mixes their own colors in their factory. Some color consultants paint more than one of those big samples, tape them together and actually put them up as mini-murals to see how the color looks. Also some tape samples to ceiling if a color is used there.

Hi again Bixa -- Thanks for giving us additional info! Sounds like you have a great neutral palette that just needs to complement all the brown and golden tones vs adding more of them since you are "gold-ed" out! As others have said upthread, those complex shades of green-grey, yellow-green-grey, blue-grey, grey-brown, etc can work so well with your colors. Totally makes sense that you are repainting the DR at this point, but if you like that general color it's probably a good one to test in your kitchen/FR! From here it's really a matter of testing samples in your space and seeing how they work technically and how they make you feel. Not sure if you're in a place that's sunny year-round but if not -- it can be a little tricky to test in summer because the light is SO different than winter. Yes, the sun is higher in the sky everywhere but....For instance, I find I'm drawn to paler and/or greyer shades when it's warm and bright and then when the cold grey light hits it's "aiiiiiiii, no!" unless certain conditions are in play. So I change out accessories and leave white walls to others. ;) Obviously you can't change the season, but I'd suggest really paying attention to your test colors first thing in the morning when the sun's still low. [In addition to other times, when your lights are on, etc.] If you find yourself very "meh" about it then move on (maybe to a shade 1 or 2 deeper on the strip). Because you have a lot of deep colors you'll have to figure out if you're more of a "stew of rich shades" type or a "brighter to add pep" type or a "light/dark muted" for each of your rooms.
