Unconditioned Dirt Floor Crawl Storage Space Under Addition

Hi There,

I am seeking some advice on properly insulating my unconditioned dirt floor Crawl Storage Space under an addition.

Current Situation

  • Floors - Dirt
  • Walls - Dirt, Concrete, Wood, Open
  • Ceiling - Insulated with fiberglass between ceiling joists and then rigid foam board over that
  • There is an electrical wire as you can see, but no plumbing or anything else

I have read many articles to rip out the fiberglass insulation. My question is what is my best course of action?

  • Floor - Put 6mil vapor barrier down?
  • Walls - Continue vapor barrier up over concrete and dirt area? frame out the vented open area (where the black sheet is)? How about between the studs...insulate that with rigid foam board?
  • Ceiling - Does the rigid foam board go between the ceiling joists and insulate the seems or over the joists and leave the cavity open?

I plan on just using this for storage, so don't want to spend big bucks on this, but also want to do it right.

Any questions let me know and appreciate the feedback!
