What is your favorite candle brand and scent?
Comments (42)I've always had favorable comments with a moderate strength vanilla scent, it seems to appeal to both males and females. I personally do not like flower scents, specially gardenia and rose. tttodd, the Slatkin candles are great; I especially like the fact that the lid is attractive and kills the flame without having to blow the candle out (eliminating that burned smell of having just blown out candles). I just bought a 3 wick Marshmallow slatkin on thursday and it has a mild vanilla scent. The glass jars at Yankee get a black soot deposit when you extinguish them by putting the lid on. Yankee has started selling some of their scents in a simple clear column container, like the slatkins; I personally do not like the countryish jars, they don't suit my decor. On that same shopping trip, I bought 2 boxes of Yankee vanilla tea lights, they burn well and go out by themselves, which is what I like about tea lights, specially the clear plastic ones, they look good in a clear glass votive holder....See MoreWhat's Your Favorite Coffee...
Comments (70)Les - It's 3 am out here, and whereas you have probably awakened for the day, I've not yet gone to sleep! Which I'm going to do right now. If you like, I'll email you at the addy in your profile, as I'm not sure that this subject is suitable for the forum. There are many places to go on the Net for information. E.g. http://www.hrc.arg/doc/?t=mideast&c=bahrai -- I'm not saying that CC itself, as a company operating in the US, torments women. It fully complies with our laws, and therefore has at least the legally mandated number of WESTERN women in the company, here. However, anyone proclaming adherence to Sharia acquiesces in the prevailing conditions in countries of that religion, and those conditions are intolerable. Arcapita states on CC's website that it fully complies with Sharia in the running of the company, under the FAQ section. Beyond that I don't want to go on this forum, as it's completely off-topic. If this were moved to Conversations, we could. If you don't mind my emailing you, let me know, and I'll do it tomorrow. My brain must now get some sleep. Threegrad - So sorry! This is such an informative thread. I'm afraid that when I saw fair-trade and CC both mentioned here, the irony simply hit me. Nighty-night......See MoreOT - What's Your Favorite Burr Coffee Grinder?
Comments (32)Bob, I think you've experienced what MANY people do when traveling and eating food, drinking wine, etc.; which I think is a fine demonstration that how much you enjoy when you're eating is only partially dictated by how good something actually is. Company and atmosphere can actually matter much more than the taste of the food you're consuming (ask anyone if that bottle of wine they had on their honeymoon on Italy tasted as good as the bottle they brought home, or scoured local wine shops for 6 months later). What I see here is actually a two part confirmation of the supposed "foofaraw" -- one, that freshly ground beans are one of the most important factors in determining the quality of the cup (you received ground coffee samples which go downhill in a matter of hours); and two, sweating the details when it comes to coffee matters. Your host has probably tried a number of different brewing methods (sock, boiling, FP style, etc.) and settled on that particular method for the tools on hand (e.g. a really coarse grinder) and the beans available. Of course, this isn't to belittle your experience in Trinidad! I'm sure the coffee was wonderful - something that many of the coffee lovers among us are ever pursuit of, which is why we sweat the foofaraw, because it does matter. Oh, and to contribute to the discussion, I use a Rancilio Rocky grinder and it's quite nice. I originally bought it for espresso, but discovered that I care a lot about the grind in all the kinds of coffee I drink. It was a wonderful discovery to notice that my FP was MUCH more enjoyable with an extremely consistent grind and very little fines....See MoreWhat is your favorite LVP Brand?
Comments (4)We did cortec in FL with a 100 pound labrador. We replaced the wood look porcelain tile. Dog doesn’t hurt it, we don’t care about coming in wet from the pool. How ever, it’s not bulletproof. Moving furniture will scratch it as did the dog crate, things I never worried about with tile. If the sub floor isn’t perfect you might have a few hollow sounds. You also can’t change directions with the design. Cortec has a great visualizer that will take your room photo and insert the floor choice. That helped us pick the color with our furniture. It looks awesome, is thicker than the tile it replaced but was pricey at $9 a foot installed. But, no impossible grout lines to clean!! Demo took 4 days, 2500 square feet install took 1.5 days!...See MoreAlisande
