Are you forced into the separate sprayer for some reason? A separate sprayer--vs. a sprayer integrated into the faucet itself--does not have as much water pressure, and you have to keep holding the handle to keep it on spray (annoying), and is prone to more repairs than an integrated sprayer.

Furthermore, your comment about easier cleaning isn't correct - a separate sprayer means one more hole to clean around, and the handle and its crannies in a separate sprayer will be more of a cleaning chore than just a button on a faucet with an integrated sprayer.

Also, will you have other fixtures at the faucet, like a hot water dispenser? The back of your sink could end up looking cluttered.

I would change from needing a separate sprayer to looking for a faucet with an integrated sprayer. You will have a lot more faucet choices available to you too.

Having looked at almost hundreds of faucets recently, I don't think you
can get what you want without paying potentially ridiculous prices. (We are redoing a 1923 kitchen last done in 1950 and are paying a fortune for custom cabinets being built to fit the home, so I am trying to save everywhere else.) But

I had a similar goal as you, but I had the pull down as a requirement instead. What I really hate the the side handle thing. Some of it is that I am slightly backward and would rather have it on the left when everyone else wants it on the right. I tried to compromise on our last faucet pre-demo by putting the handle in the front. (I just had to make sure the hot and cold were swapped to follow the normal pattern). But even then I did not like reaching underneath the faucet opening, it felt awkward. As I thought about what frustrated me with the other faucet, I realized it was not when I was washing dishes, but the quick rinses under the tap as I was doing other things. Since I hated adjusting the water by reaching under, I can eliminate
that reaching under by succumbing to a touch-on/touch less faucet. Voila! The price jump to the touch was not as bad as the jump to finding the faucet that met my earlier requirements. - - And I feel like I am getting an indulgence that will help keep the area cleaner with two boys.

Thanks, this is really helpful! I've found the sink area to be by far the most difficult because I have strong opinions after five years of handwashing all our dishes, but that could entirely change once we have a dishwasher. I'm having trouble imagining what that will be like.

@Miranda33 I suspect this is where I'm being most stubborn and will probably relent. I think I'm being influenced by a few sinks I've used where the integrated sprayers started looking a little worn before the rest of the faucet, and I just don't like the designs quite as much. But this is probably the practical way to go. We don't have plans for any other fixtures, and I do like the idea of just a single hole.

@dainaadele I stopped looking for touchless faucets after seeing the prices, so I'll need to revisit that. That's exactly my problem with the side handles... I feel like I'm always trying to reach through the water when doing small tasks. (My in-laws have this kind.)

I lucked out. I had already resigned myself to having to pay around 300 at the minimum for what I wanted. Debated the extra 300 (to 600 yikes!) to upgrade to a touch design and then as I was debating, someone put a new one up for sale on ebay for 350. Jackpot!!!!! :D :D :D

I recently moved. My old kitchen had a Delta :Leland pulldown faucet I was very happy with. It took a small bit of getting used to, but it was fantastic to use, and easy to swish the sink out when needed. The kitchen in this house had a traditional faucet like what you describe. I spent the first 2 weeks putting my arm into the stream of water to reach the handle or side sprayer.

You will adjust to a new style, I promise. And my mid-range Delta got hard use for 5+ years and still looked great.

Lisa, I believe I am going to get the Artifacts faucet #K-99260. I am linking to it below on the Kohler website. It is about $500 online, which is high but it seems to have so much going for it, that I am hoping it's worth it. Kohler says its "Unique handle execution provides intuitive use and eliminates handle interference with backsplash." It seems to have the benefits of a one-handle faucet, but the handle placement is unusual, and seems like it would be very helpful. And it has the magnetic docking which I checked out in a showroom, and is really good. The faucet head felt more ergonomic and comfortable to me than some of the other faucets on display. It also has two kinds of spray, and one of the sprays (called a "sweep" spray) has a fanning-out shape that will be very good for washing the sink and dishes. Plus, it sure is good-looking (IMHO). My only concern is that it is very tall, but I think that will just make it a focal point in my kitchen which I need.

Lisa - I did not get what you are looking for. I have the side handle but have it turned to the left and about 45 degrees forward because I usually have my faucet turned towards the drain on the right side of my one basin sink. The forward handle direction helps limit drips on the counter. It is important to think how you use your sink. If I had my handle on the right, I would turn the water on right on my arm.

If you stick with your original requirements, Kohler has an independent Side Sprayer (I have not idea how well it works but I think a few previous posters have had this unit on the forum).

I have a Kohler Artifacts and I LOVE it. Not only does it look beautiful, it functions beautifully. The three different spray options suit my needs perfectly. The stream is good for general use (e.g. handwashing, filling pots), the berry spray is good for rinsing produce and dishes and the fan spray makes quick work of clearing debris from all the corners and sides of the sink. The buttons for toggling between/activating the different sprays are also perfectly placed where your fingers naturally rest on the pull down, so they're easy to press. Kohler's Docknetic system helps to seat the pull down portion tight against the neck of the faucet so it doesn't dangle. The faucet feels nice and hefty and of high quality materials and workmanship. Can't say enough good things about it!!

Wow, that Kohler Artifacts is gorgeous and functional. We are getting ready to use a lot of the Artifacts line in a master bath reno. But I really hate my Blanco kitchen faucet . . .

That Artifacts line is lovely! This became a whole rollercoaster of looking at different types, settling on a compromise, deciding it was worth a splurge after all, finding a great deal on ebay only to have it sell right before we could jump in... I felt like I had completely thrown out my original criteria, but in the end we're going with a faucet that fits that exact description:

I'm hoping that can be installed without the baseplate because there's a good sale, but otherwise we'll go with the similar K-10416-VS model. That should do just fine, and inexpensive enough that we could change it out in a couple of years once we know more about how we use the new sink.
