Try Barkeepers Friend, which is a mild "scouring" powder containing oxalic acid and works nicely to refresh stainless steel finishes. Rub in the direction of the polish marks, rinse well and dry with a soft cloth.

The powder will not scratch the surface? I use Barkeepers Friend on my Silgranit sink so have it. Should I apply anything on the stainless surface to protect against rusting in the future? Thanks for the quick response.

Lemon juice could work for the spots, with a lot of buffing (soft cloth). Oil would protect it. There are products for shining and protecting stainless which have an oil base just for that. Makes for smudges, though.

I'm hoping to find some way to get rid of the current spots and protect against new ones. I use a stainless steel cleaner but the spots started within months of getting the refrigerator and continue to appear. Thanks for the advice.

I had what sounds like a similar problem with a new kitchen aid range. the spots were in the finish and did not come out. Hopefully your Jennaire also made by Whirlpool does not have the same problem.

I used bar keepers friend, the liquid version, on my stainless Bosch dishwasher with this problem. It helped, though I need to do it again to see if I can make it "perfect." My GC suggested naval jelly, but I think that's a way more hazardous substance than bar keepers. think some people apply some kind oil to coat or protect stainless. I have not tried this.

When I had this problem with my fridge (Liebherr, after a longer while of owning than OP) Barkeeper's friend worked well for me.

Just tried Barkeepers friend on my Jenn-Air stainless fridge and it removed all rust spots instantly!!
