Dark, small master bedroom.

This room has windows on the north and east walls. I want to change the color from the taupey purple color it is now to a blue or green. I have samples of BM Beach Glass, Smoke, and SW Sea Salt on the walls but I am not sure that any are working. I am willing to go darker, but my husband may need to get used to the idea. Floors are 1950s oak, trim is white.

First 2 photos are northern wall, second one is opposite the eastern window. The room is 12' x 9.5'. I am also open to some decorating help.

Of the three I like the one to the left. I think the one to the right will fade to nothing in certain lights, and off white will just look dingy in certain lights. The color needs to have some "body" to it or it just greys or beiges out into nothing.

If it were my room and I wanted to use those colors, I would pick the middle one. I think it would look very nice with your oak and your white trim, as well as lots of colors for accessories.

Do you have bedding picked out, or will you use what you have? If replacing it, you might want to look for your bedding first then select a paint color to coordinate. I can easily find a gazillion paint colors I like, but seem to have more trouble honing in on bedding that I love.

I'd use either a saturated color or, preferably a warm saturated color. Sea Salt would not work in a low-light room. It would be blah. It's a gorgeous color in very high natural light.

I would suggest that your bed have a headboard, but no footboard, as that will really shrink the room. Perhaps with storage drawers beneath. Maybe you could post some furniture that you've considered but rejected?

We're adding a slightly larger master suite (20x26) that also includes reconfiguring the original space to create a hallway entrance next to an existing hall bath. Our architect configured the space so that the new master bath abuts the existing hall bath, presumably to minimize the plumbing work etc, as in the 2nd sketch by @er612. She also aligned the new master closet with the existing space which just helps as a sound buffer. The rest of the layout was decided based on views - optimal placement of windows, strategic placement of the bathroom door, having wall space for a TV if you want that.

I like it, however I think the loveseat at the foot of the bed doesn't work. it's a warm gray,,number 1, and 2, it's too large. this type of sofa works w/the bed. here's a dark gray wall room w/plenty of texture and prints, or what about one like this? notice the nightstands, pillows, bench and rug Your small light over the bed? seems too small. do you have any art? to go below it? everything in that room is solid. you need some print and some other color bigger night stands in a wood like your floor, or a white or a gray would be fine. like this. same color gray, but w/texture/pattern, warm wood, it comes to life I'd try a nice light, maybe some like these drapes over the smaller windows proper size for a bench. but notice the textures and prints in an otherwise very neutral room lastly, pillows, throws, linen, lighting, some mirrors, art, all in the same shade of grays.

^^^I agree with Olychick. I know everyone says to paint a dark room dark and cozy, but it never works for me. See what you think about Palladian Blue, which would be pretty with a white matelassé coverlet. It is a cleaner blue/green without the gray tones. But, yeah, go shopping first. You may find something that you love and go from there.

Our master bedroom also has a northern and eastern window and I painted it a gold color and love it.

Palladian Blue would be a good choice because it has a brightness, i.e.: a warmth to it so it can defeat the low light absorption problem of cooler colors.

Any ideas for warm wall colors that aren't yellow? Maybe in the warm white family? I prefer to keep my bedding dark as I have 2 black cats and 2 messy boys.

The hallway just outside the bedroom will be Gray Owl. I have been looking at Palladian Blue but many online sources are warning me away from cool colors. This bedroom gets mainly northern light and I am located in MN.

That was a great link, Tib. I'm surprised at how much I like the Decatur Buff in that kitchen with lots of white. I wouldn't have guessed it at all. It would also work with your dark blue duvet cover.

SW Sea Salt is a really pretty color. We had it in our Masterbath and I loved it, but it was too light for the room (which has little light) so we went up the strip one color and used Comfort Gray instead.. In the darker room the color showed up much better.. It's a very quiet and calming color.
