Suggested Roses for Next To Front Porch
Comments (5)A Tea (not the same as a hybrid tea) rose or China rose might be good, because many of them are much more resistant to black spot than a modern rose and because some of them are really fragrant and bloom constantly. I believe your area has heavy blackspot pressure, so a rose that stays clean is a good idea for right next to the front door. Check over at the Antique Rose Forum to ask about Teas with excellent blackspot resistance and lots of fragrance... Comments (12)Thanks for all these suggestions! I do need something that can get stepped on, and have the hose dragged across. More the latter than intentional stepping on. It is funny but grass grew there just fine before the patio install. When that was done new soil was put in all around most of the patio, but not that specific spot; and sod laid. We decided the old grass there looked sad near the new sod, so we opted to put in new sod there ourselves. The sod we put in didnâÂÂt make it, so we started seeding, but neither one lasted for more than one season. I really liked the look of the Ajuga Mahogany, but have no idea if it can take any traffic. Susan , what kind of Ajuga do you have? I have a silver lamium elsewhere and it is patchy, has never filled in. It looks like thyme is my best option. I have not wintersowed, but it seems like I need to start....See MoreFront Lawn Renovation - Next steps - advice
Comments (42)Not mowing at day 50 with Kentucky bluegrass is not abnormal. The stuff goes into Sprout and Pout after it sprouts up and works on its root mass. I wasn't mowing all that much by the end of the first season myself, and I planted early. If you haven't fed since sprout (or not at all), a half-rate feeding wouldn't be a bad idea. Then feed at full rate when the growth on surrounding lawns stop, but yours is still green (a normal winterization, in other words, just timed on other people's lawns)....See MoreFront Porch Decor Advice
Comments (4)I like the idea of metal art on that big blank space -- something with some color. Also a colorful door mat, maybe a rug under your chairs, a small table for a glass of lemonade, house numbers (above the porch?), and some plants. Oh, and a pretty wreath for the door. I really think you need COLOR -- you're already swimming in neutrals. I know you say those aren't your chairs, but measure them -- then buy something a bit bigger. They don't come anywhere near "filling the space". Your porch appears large -- you might need something larger, like an outdoor sectional or a large outdoor sofa + a matching chair. Here are some inspiration pix I like -- I particularly want a chaise of some sort because I'd like an outdoor reading spot, and I want space for 2-3 people to sit comfortably. What function do YOU want for YOUR porch?...See MoreRoxana *** ZN 5 Indianapolis IN ***
