Help - White Oak Floor Stain

I am trying to find a light to medium greige stain for my floors... I used a 2:1 Weathered Oak and Country White. The floors turned out with a major pink/orange undertone, and we will have to re-sand and stain. Any suggestions on how to accomplish this MINUS the pink/orange hue. MANY THANKS in advance!!

For custom effects it's better to apply one color over another to get more depth and shading. Maybe you want the wood tone stain in the wood and the white on top as a wash. Make sample boards.

The wood and the top coat will both add/affect the final color. If you apply the same stain color to say, red oak vs. hard maple, or use an oil-based top coat vs. an acrylic, you will have different results. The only way to predict (without much experience) is to run sample boards.

If, you are using an oil base poly over it. The ambering is more pronounced. Use a water base finish and your browns will be browns.

Medium Brown, Antique brown or Jacobean - Medium brown is the lightest, jacobean will be the darkest. The provincial has an orange tint to it. Don't use an oil based poly/topcoat. They turn orange over time.

I am having some doubts about the 4" White Oak floors that I had installed recently. I requested 2 coats of Bona Nordic Seal and then 3 coats of Traffic HD Anti Slip. For some reason I noticed when the wood was delivered it looked pinkish, and yet the stamp on the wood said White Oak -- - BUT not all the wood had this stamp just the ones placed at the very top of the stack. I thought why should I question what is stamped on the wood. Now that everything is installed, the floor looks pinkish especially in natural light. What do you think based on the photos. Does this look like White Oak to you?

I don't think you will be able to get that light look consistently with red and white oak. You probably need to go with a medium neutral stain on all floors, one that has green tones in it. Green is the complement to red/pink, and mixing complementary colors neutralizes them. I've had success with Special Walnut stain throughout my home. The floors in the original (1920s) part of the home are oak, not sure if red or white. The new white oak floors in the kitchen were installed in 2014; all are stained special walnut. Here is a photo of the transition area between dining room (above the saddle) and kitchen (below the saddle). The color is not too dark and not too light. Depending on the light it can look warmer or cooler. It's my "go-to" color for me and my clients for many years.

What brand of stain?

TEST your mixes on sample boards. There's a definite limit to how many times you can sand a floor.

And remember that the wood species is a major part of the mix. With the strong reddish tones of oak, you'll have to neutralize it to get a "greige" (which isn't really a color, it's a decorator's term for all shades of brownish=grey with any sort of undertone).

Before applying stain and finish to the entire floor, experiment with a scrap piece of flooring. Do a sample finish on this piece. Also, the expanse of an entire finished floor will seem to be a couple of shades darker than a small piece in hand. Its an optical impression trick that your senses play on you.
