Plumeria produced its first seed pod

Hi everyone! I was just out checking on my plants when I noticed one of my Plumerias produced two seed pods! I was so excited! I've only had this particular plant for about 1.5 yrs. Last year, it flowered as well but nothing became of them.

Here's a photo. I read online that the seed pods need to remain on the plant for nine months. Is this the case? Would love to hear of your experiences. I definitely will keep you all posted on its progress.

Quick update on the Plumeria seed pod. It's been a little over a month, and the seed pod has gotten quite a bit larger. I just wanted to share an updated photo to the one above.

From what I read on Plumeria101, it takes a couple of years to get the seeds to grow into a blooming plant. The seeds (which to me look a lot like the way a milkweed pod is packed in, only the seeds look similar to maple tree seeds) don't always come true to the parent, so that might make it more interesting to try and see what you get. I gave a bunch of pods away to a nieghbor (and her gardening club) but kept a couple to try for myself. Now, for me to get out there and DO it!

As a follow up to my original question on seed viability, let me point out that I'm forced to try saving seeds from an unripe pod because pods never turned red through the growing season. This is my first year growing this strain, which I like because it's not too hot. In previous years, with a different strain, I've had plenty of red jalapenos, which I like to smoke for chipotles. So my follow up question is to ask if there is a lot of variability between different strains as far as ripening is concerned. The plants grew well and early and I had a large crop, but the pods I left on the plants never turned red. I'm trying to overwinter one plant because I read on the Forum that this will give me a plant that produces early. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can produce ripe pods? Unlikely. I'd assume it was to do with sun and light exposure and eventually how old the individual seed pods are. The red pigmentation are anthocyan(in)s, which act as a natural sunscreen, protecting the plant from high light stress and photoinhibition (reduction of photosynthetic capability of leaves).

Congratulations. you are correct to expect an 8-10 month time frame. Dormancy does not have any impact on seed pod maturation but IMO a branch with a seed pod is less likely to bloom in the early to middle part of the following summer. For some people that may use up too much of their short growing season.

Thank you :) I'm a bit excited and will just be happy if the seed pods survive through winter. And what you stated makes sense - I'm sure the plant is routing a good bit of energy into the seed pods so it probably can't produce more flowers the following growth cycle.

The biggest issue I have experienced with seed pods over winter dormancy is accidentally knocking them off while playing Plant Tetris to get them into the greenhouse.
