trends in carpeting
Comments (6)We just went through this thought process and actually decided to forego the new carpeting. We wanted to put in something stain resistant and attractive and the cost was looking upwards of $6k. I work with many young professionals and the feedback I got from them was "no carpet." Apparently the hardwoods/laminates are really preferred among this set. If you're still staying w/ carpet, and if you go down the road of seeking something that is soft, stain/wear resistant, and attractive, then I would recommend looking into the carpets made w/ Dupont Sorona techonology. Mohawk has the exclusive line right now and IMHO it is noticeably softer than the Stainmaster options we felt; it is also made from corn so it is "green." However, if you're only carpeting for show then maybe you don't want to go that route...? Sorry - can't help w/ color. Certainly no one told me that light colors are "out" when we were pondering these issues. Multi-colored friezes were definitely pushed by the carpet places but frankly my young professional friends were not fans (!)....See MoreWhat's the current kitchen styles for 2017?
Comments (18)great advice up thread when choosing different countertops/backsplash-mind your flooring since it's a big surface that won't change. reads warm to me..you also describe it as such for a fun global look I'd go with patterned backsplash(but much warmer in its pallette that the one you're posted), simple Quartz (no movement/minimal movement) that is a good support to backsplash in terms of color, and also works with the flooring.. Maybe you decide to go with some quirky knobs. Maybe you paint the island only. You can consider changing some cabinet doors for glass if displaying things is something you like, and you're not put off with the thought it needs to be tidy all the time. It's not a lot of storage, so consider that. Have fun with light fixtures..and your kitchen while small is not tiny or dark..you can just accessorize it to your liking with ceramics and a rug and towels and plants..it's a good enough background. If absolutely in love with marble look quartz-make sure it's not too cold a color next to your floor..and don't do patterned tiles. Go with simpler tiles then. Because one of these will steal the show anyway. Too much pattern for one small kitchen. And you'll have-probably-a lot of pattern in your accessories too. Maybe even in your hardware and/or lights. These don't have to be just this or that. Of course should stylistically relate to your other choices. say, can't see cheerful ceramic knobs next to Calacatta..different sensibilities Nothing matches much in my house too in terms of decor yet one is much more restricted when picking hard surfaces for kitchen etc....See MoreCurrent Brick Mailbox Trend?
Comments (7)I have a flat top of the same solid TX limestone that is on/in our home. I have nothing on top. Have tried the plants/etc, but wasn't pleased with the dirt etc. that came through- especially with rain. For us, it doesn't look weird, as the flat top mimics our flat roof. Since it was built by the same mason who did the house, it all flows. I do regret not running electricity to it, for the light on top. I don't regret spending some time and a few extra bucks on a very secure mail box. Not only can't it be picked up an hauled away (it happens) but it's hard to "hack". Plus- smile for the cameras, if you try to do that. :)...See Morewhat style of wall to wall carpet for bedrooms is trending right now?
Comments (6)In my last home, I redid the floors on two levels to hardwood, and added area rugs. In my new, traditional 20 year old home, I removed the carpet from the both sets of stairs and the downstairs master and replaced it by continuing the hardwood throughout. I thought about continuing it on the upstairs level, and decided against it. We are both happy that we have the carpet upstairs. It add a level of comfort and probably muffles sound. Plus I like to sit and lay down on the carpet. Also, it is so hard coordinating rugs in all the rooms....See MoreAnnette Holbrook(z7a)
