Help Me Break My Ivy Curse

maggiepatty

I have many houseplants and would say my skills/luck are about average--I've had some plants for many years, but have had some others not last long at all. I used to have a problem with watering in sips and/or overwatering, and I have tried to improve my results by using partly or all cactus/succulent soil to improve drainage and by watering deeply but less often.

Ivies are a species I just have not been able to keep alive, even with my 'improved' methods. I've tried many kinds--English, Algerian, Swedish, and I don't think I've kept any alive longer than a year, except for one grape ivy my mother gave me.

They stop growing, get stiff, then the leaves fall off. It's frustrating. I've stopped buying them because I feel like I'm a death sentence for them.

What advice do you all have? I really would love to have a happy healthy ivy.
