How to get Better Indoor Air Quality in New Jersey

The Better Dehumidifier

Hopefully you have power restored by now and have the water out of the basement. What about the moisture and humidity that the water left behind? Water enters your home in two ways, through actual water intrusion such as ground water, and through humidity. The residual effects of the water intrusion, such as wet carpeting and water soaked moldings are having all this humidity releasing in your homes’ indoor atmosphere. Not good.

The actual term for humidity is relative humidity, because warmer air can hold more moisture than cooler air. The amount of humidity is relative to air temperature. This weather can be unfavorable towards getting a home drier and healthier. There are pollens and new growth in the air which aggravate asthma, respiratory and hay fever sufferers. There are concerns of moisture related problems and indoor air quality can adversely affect the health of occupants and deteriorate the structural integrity of the home.

Everything we do to keep the energy (i.e. Heat and A/C) contained in the home, also keeps moisture contained in the home. The types of problems that come with all of that trapped moisture are mold and mildew, as well as other biological pollutants, and pests. Creepy crawly things love moisture, and if you are not venting out your moisture, you are sending out an invitation for those un-welcomed guests. Mold and mildew grow in dank, damp environments, and insects love it too.

When we use air conditioning, we remove humidity and cool the air before sending it back out. When we use a dehumidifier, we remove humidity and re-warm the air before sending it back out. Somewhat counter-productive, don’t you think? Now that warmer air can once again hold more humidity. All the while, the dehumidifier is using a 500-700 watt motor to accomplish this and consuming about $1.50 a day of electricity.

The dehumidifier was invented by Mr. Willis Carrier in 1902. Since that time the cabinet and controls get a new look every few years but the technology is essentially the same.

The E-Z Breathe Ventilation System is a better dehumidifier. This whole house ventilation system is a device that expels the dampest, most humid & contaminated air from your basement to the outside.describe the image

Once the damp air is exhausted outside it is replaced with dry air from the higher levels of your house. It has a humidistat, turning itself on and off as humidity levels increase and decrease. This ventilation system will work year round unlike a dehumidifier which can only operate in the warmest months.

Okay, now here comes the good part: no buckets to empty, no filters to replace, and…wait for it… only uses about $2 A MONTH of electricity. No wonder E-Z Breathe is called The Better Dehumidifier.

Conclusions: NO heavy buckets to empty. Improves indoor air quality. Maintenance FREE.

If you see any signs of water in the basement you should seek the advice of a professional basement waterproofi
