Comments (3)Did an eBay search for this pattern in sterling. Did not see a butter knife, but here is a description for the regular knife. Can we assume if the regular knife is marked, the butter should be too? "This is Vintage Oneida Sterling Silver Modern Hollow Knives in the "Michelangelo" pattern. I recently acquired these at a local estate auction. They are lightly marked Sterling Handle on the side of the blade. They are in good condition with only minor surface marks from use and no monogram or engraving (or removal.) The stainless steel blades appear to be the originals and are firmly attached to the handles. Each knife measures 9 inches in length."...See MoreSterling silver flatware corrosion question
Comments (7)Not an expert on sterling, but like the tip about using ammonia... sparingly! Several years ago, when people actually "crafted", I was into making wind chimes. Found my raw materials in big lots of mis-natched silver-plate stuff on Ebay... usually VERY CHEAP!! One BIG batch ended up with a LOT of one pattern (Patrician), that looked to be in pretty mice condition... little to no significant wear on usual spots on forks & spoons. Took some time and elbow grease, but cleaned up REALLY nice with good silver polish. I found a silver box at a thrift store or yard sale for next to nothing. Silver plates stays tarnish free in there....See Moresterling silver flatware in the dw
Comments (8)I agree with Becky....and you also may be using too much detergent.... Your silverware will polish...try it to be sure....but the glassware may be ruined. Are you using the power dry cycle? that may also contribute....it the detergent isn't getting rinsed off well enough and then the heat cycle comes on....that all contributes to dulling the finish. I ruined several sets of glasses and coulded some of my good lead crystal wine glasses before I figured out "less detergent!!!" Today's detergents are made for people who don't scrape nor pre rinse their dishes and are built strong to take care of the extra gunk. But if you rinse your dishes, then there is extra detergent in the washer and it acts on the dishes and glassware....because there is no more food. Get some Wrights....polish your silver....and try less of a perhaps different product. Comments (16)They are a gift for my daughter who awaits a service for 12 arriving for Easter - she is so excited - I'm so happy for her but a little concerned as she feels the butter handle looks like stainless - not like the silver-looking other pieces I bought which have that warm sterling look....hopefully if it turns out to be silver and all the knives look like this one she will still be happy - keeping fingers crossed. I agree it is a pretty pattern and glad she prefers the more formal look! Also, the magnetic test won't help - although the handle won't hold a magnet, neither will my old Oneida stainless knife handles from the 70's and 80's. I wonder how long I have to leave the knife in with the hard boiled egg-half before it begins to tarnish.?...See MoreRelated Professionals
