Sounds like a good deal. I have that range top and have been very happy with it. Do you know if it is set up for natural gas or propane? If the burners are the semi-open burners then I would think the range top is at least 4 years old. Not sure about changing to a griddle or grill, but those were options when new. Hope it works out for you.

Instead of trying to convert 2 burners to a griddle. I would simply get a nice, cast Iron griddle. It should fit pretty much spot on across 2 burners.

That model was discontinued about 4 years ago but maybe Wolf could give you an idea about the age if you called them. The burner tray disassembles for cleaning but it is a capped burner. I don't know if it is worthwhile or not.

I would get an overlay griddle too. They do come in different sizes and metals. Cast Iron and steel do not conduct heat as well so tend to have zones of heat. You can season them though so they are nonstick. They also are heavy. Many on thus forum like Chef King and they make one that is sized to fit a pro style range. The other choice would be a thick aluminum griddle. They heat more evenly. They come nonstick coated or bare and the bare will season over time but take longer than CI or steel. Some people like the zones of heat with steel/ CI because they can cook where it is really hot and keep warm on cooler parts. Royal Industries makes a nice aluminum griddle coated or bare and in different sizes.

@James May: yeah, probably the way to go.. now would just need to figure out if we really need 6 burners. :)

@kalapointer & @wekick, it is set up for gas; as for sealed vs. open, attached is a pic of it, I guess those are the (semi-?) open burners? What does semi-open mean exactly? Would it be a pain the butt to clean?

Semi open means in this case that the tray comes apart for cleaning. It still has capped burners though. If burner trays don't come apart, they are sealed. Some people have specific preferences whether they like burners to come apart or want sealed for cleaning. This allows you to break it down to really get it clean periodically or you could just wipe it down most of the time.

I just use a SOS pad on the burner trays and they clean up really well. The grates season with use like any cast iron. You can put the grates in the DW too. I have never had any problems with my range top in the six years that I have used it. Never had a service call. I think I paid around $3K, so $400 sounds good to me. I don't find the capped burners a deal breaker at the price and it has plenty of BTUs for me.

Call SZ and have them check the date of manufacture. They can definitely do that. If it's 5 years old or less than I would say it's a killer deal. It was a solid piece and appears to be in very good shape. This is worth $600-800 if all the information checks out.

Stupid question from the picture though. Where are the burner caps? It appears to be missing the burner outer ring assembly. If that's missing you will need about $200 in parts. If those are included you are good to go.

Thanks all. Unfortunately he sold it already. For entertainment: I was chasing another killer deal on a 48in model with griddle that was missing the grates and the griddle assembly, for $250... could not get it either. Even crazier was that the same charity (that had got them as a donation) was selling a Sub-Zero Pro 648 ($16k new) for $1,000.. the same dealer who bought the Wolf had the Sub-Zero then on Craigslist for $9,000 the day after he picked it up. Nice return for him. :D
