First and foremost, you are comparing apples and oranges. They are both highly regarded windows, however that is about where the similarities end. Vinyl and wood windows are two completely different products, and each could be either the perfect solution, or an epic failure depending on your project goals. Think about look and feel, energy efficiency, cost, warranty, lifespan, resale, etc.

I'd recommend narrowing down the preferred window material based on your priorities, and then comparing a couple good products that are competitive.

I am only looking at vinyl windows. I believe Marvin has a vinyl replacement line.

Not a fan of the Sunrise double-hung nor any the Ultrex.

I would go with the Sunrise if they are casements or another upper end vinyl line.

The one negative you will hear on it is that if you go with the un-reinforced unit at wide openings, you might have some deflection issues. If you opt for the sash reinforcements, you should be fine.

What glass are you being quoted? With PA being in the Northern Region for Energy Star, the Sunrise double hung with standard double pane does not meet the new .27 u factor without adding a surface 4 low e coating that will decimate condensation resistance. Opt for triple pane ideally, otherwise get the standard (previous) glass that is not Energy Star rated.

I would not say that 27" is wide. I like to see sash reinforcement on that product though regardless.

The reason i considered Sunrise was because of their reputation as a high-quality replacement window with narrower frames. I assume getting the sashes reinforced will essentially eliminate the narrowness of the frames.

Also, i believe Philly qualifies as North-Central region, but is actually more like Atlanta, climate-wise, thanks to global warming.

Homesealed is correct and if I am not mistaken Zone 5 is due to get even more stringent (at least commercial construction is). Global Warming while may actually be true it plays no part in energy codes as it is not universally accepted.

Washington DC area (i.e. Philly as well) was always a swamp. We get the worst of both extremes of weather if you ask me without.
