Built almost like automobile filters, as well as other paper filters. How I solved the replacement, cost problem. Go buy a roll of Bounty paper towels- 2 ply . Take one sheet, (not the half sheet) and separate the ply sheets. You end up with 2 separate sheets of ply. You will notice how the one ply is constructed of many small fine holes, enough for air to pass through, just like a filter. Wrap one sheet around the round, approx. 12 inch Hoover Hepa filter. There will be an overlap. To secure it tape it in 3 spots. You are only adding a paper filter as an added last step prior to the to the filtering action of the HEPA filter. Save the other ply for your next vacuuming. You will find the paper ply sheet will stop much of the real dirt from reaching your filter, but it will suck dirt just fine, and will prevent replacing this Hoover Hepa filter as often, as it gets dirty real fast. Empty dirt cup more frequently, perhaps after each room. After each vacuuming, tap the Hoover filter to clean out any other small dirt it many have accumulated, and replace the paper ply filter. I should have chimed in earlier, but have been busy. You made a good choice. The power nozzle is more aggressive, plus you can adjust the height of the nozzle. This is much better than "self adjusting" power nozzle on the Miele. What I find people end up doing is turning the power down on the Miele, so that it is easier for them to push. By doing this, Miele users are not utilizing the power of the Miele. You are going to find out also how much quieter the Verve is to your old Celebrity canister and how much better filtration you have. The cost of bags and filters are not going to be as much w/your vacuum compared to Miele. You mentioned in a previous post, that the attachments seemed "skimpy". The attachments in the vacuum are on the small side, but should work ok. You should have also received a 3-in-1 tool, which fits on the wand. This is a much better tool than what is stored inside. It has a really thick natural haired dusting brush. If you flip the attachment to the other side and open the "wings", you will have an upholstery tool. Close those "wings" and you will have a curved crevice tool. When cleaning upholstery with this tool, I have found that the tool glides better when pulled back instead of pushed forward, when vacuuming a surface. You also have a nice quality floor brush. Like the Miele, the Simplicity also allows you to adjust the motor speed. Finding the correct foot pedal can be difficult, but most vacuum cleaners have symbols on each for "power" and "cord". That can be still difficult to see, when the pedals are black. There is a simple thing to get into the habit of doing. When looking to turn on the vacuum or rewind the cord, just look where the cord exits the vacuum. The cord storage entry will be on the side of the cord rewind pedal. I believe that you will really enjoy your Simplicity. And remember, if you get stuck finding supplies like bags and filters, and no Simplicity dealer in site, a Riccar dealer will work also. The Simplicity brand, and its sister brand Riccar, are vacuum cleaner brands owned by Tacony Corporation. The two brands are only available through vacuum cleaner shops. You will not find these at Walmart. This is a reason why many have not heard of them. They have been around for a few decades. They introduced Simplicity after Riccar though. People hear of Oreck, because they do so much advertising. The Freedom is indeed a very good liteweight upright vacuum cleaner. It cleans very well. Tacony is coming out with a new model, under the Riccar and Simplicity nameplate, that is very impressive. What is really impressive is the longlife belt, that does not need to be changed like the previous models. The regular belts on the previous models need to be changed about every year(depending upon its use).

Well, this is my SAD saga regarding vacuum cleaners! I was married 50 years when my husband passed away last summer, so I have seen A LOT of vacuum cleaners! The one I remember very well is a Sears canister over 20 years ago that cost me at that time about $400.00. It was nothing but trouble. So bad, in fact, that it went in the trash. My Mom also purchased one and so did my best friend. Both of those shortly went in the trash, also. Then came the Hoover Dimension 1000 canister vacuum. I brought it with me in 1988 when we moved to a new location, where we still are now. And the Dimension 1000 still runs! That's nearly 30 years! But the hose desperately needs replacement (as the wiring runs through it to run the power head) but I doubt I can still get the parts. I should have replaced it at the time, when it cost $100.00, but I had no idea how these vacuums were going to go downhill. I have it all taped up with electrical tape, but I'm afraid to use it. So it's sitting in the basement. I still have an older Hoover Windtunnel upright with the "Dirt Finder" that actually works! The entire vacuum works well but it's extremely heavy to push. I found that with the newer ones, the "Dirt Finder" doesn't work--I was actually told that in a Hoover store--and the rest of the machine doesn't work, either. Again, I was told in a vacuum store that the newer Hoovers are no good. Well, that vacuum was sold in my last garage sale for $5.00 and I was glad to be rid of it. Now, to the present time...I purchased a Dyson DC 41 for $600.00 about three years ago and it just quit on me. I hemmed and hawed about what I should get to replace it and I wish I had seen this forum before making a purchase. Believe it or not, I bought another DC 41 because WHEN it worked, it was great! Fortunately, since it now is an older model, it was somewhat less expensive. Now I'm hoping I will have better luck with this one. I also decided it was time to replace my heavy, aging Hoover Windtunnel, and I purchased a Shark Rotator Powered Lift Away (the pet model) for upstairs because I love the ease in which I can get under the bed. This set me back about $350.00, which I didn't think was bad, because I LOVE this vacuum. And I have 7 cats in the house (yes, seven) so I'm glad I got the pet models in both. But I have it less than a month, so only time will tell. Had I seen this forum, I would have looked into the Tacony products, a Simplicity or Riccar. After all, I spent enough money that I could have considered one of those. And there is a vacuum store right up the road from me.
