Need ID on possible poisonous plant for cat
Comments (7)took her to the vet. two of the them in fact. first one was an ER vet and blood test was taken. second was my regular vet. blood test showed nothing, feline leukemia was negative. i told both about possible poisoning of toxic plant. ER vet prescribed steriods and antiboitics. both could not conclusively tell what is wrong and the lost of balance and trance state is an onset/offset thing. it occurred with the ER vet not the other. my regular vet said she knows of the plant family, but the symptoms my cat is experiencing doesn't match what ingesting the plant would produce. both suggested taking her for an MRI. i can't afford it right now, especially after taking her to 2 vets. so sad to see her in a deteriorating state....See MoreDaylily Toxic to Cats?
Comments (15)Sometimes early in the season something small, I suspect bunnies, nibble at the new foliage. Could be deer, but they don't bother them when the foliage gets bigger. I've read many times about the roots being edible. Lots of people worry about cats eating their poisonous plants. I grow foxglove, datura, brugmansia & several other plants that are deadly if eaten, never had a cat/kitten/puppy dine on them. I would encourage a certain groundhog I have problems with to have a nice breakfast on my favorite foxglove, but he has no interest. I need to get a trap for that guy this year. I would keep a close eye on toddlers in my yard, but frankly, if a child is young enough to put those in their mouth, they are young enough to be closely supervised when they are outside....See MoreNew Succulent Owner in Search of ID's!
Comments (15)That's great; just in case you can't find all the ingredients - perlite should be easy, it is sold in many stores like Lowe's, Home Depot, Wallmart and garden centers. For grit, look for size similar to size of aquarium gravel. Before re-potting, it would be good to get rest of the soil off. If it doesn't get off easily, you could spray it off with a hose, or fill bowl with tepid water and gently swish the root ball around until the soil washes off. Leave plant sitting on some newspaper or kitchen towels to dry off, don't put in direct sun while drying. If there are any dark-colored, very soft or mushy roots, clip them off (rotting roots even smell sometimes). After plant dries off for few hrs-day, pot it up in fresh mix. Don't overpot (pot too large - what you have there is good size), and don't pot plant too low in the pot. You could use some gravel for top-dressing if you like. If they were outdoors before, you could put them into sunny location. If they were in darker space, make sure they don't go directly into strongest sunlight - even if the sun is not as strong as it was month ago. When you propagate from leaves, they should be healthy leaves. Some plants are little more finicky about starting from leaves, but the ones you have usually grow easily....See MoreNeed ID's for a few mystery succulents
Comments (9)1. Kalanchoe 'Fang' 2. Aloe aristata 3. Haworthia venosa ? Can't tell how big that is... if that's a 4" pot, then that is some hybrid plant- way too big to be a Haworthia 4. Pachyphytum of some sort perhaps 5. Sedum of some sort (maybe a bit etiolated?.. adolphii?) 6. Peperomia dolabriformis ( or closely related species) 7. Cant tell size again.. .could be a stapelid (based on color) such as Huernia or Euphorbia hamata (less likely)...See MoreCatherine (8b)
