What is the Most Fragrant Rose?
Comments (40)I have a poor nose. A rose has to have an overwhelming scent to get noticed by me. The list of OGRÂs that are fragrant is nearly endless. Just to mention a few that I have, The Apothecary, Hippolyte and Jacques Cartier. An old rose that is also fragrant but not I think classified as an OGR despite being old is Baltimore Belle. Its flowers indivdually are not that fragrant but enmasse become overpowering. It has literally hundreds of flowers each cluster with 10 or more buds. As IÂm in Zone 5 I no longer grow HTÂs of which many are bred for fragrance so that gang is not on my list. I notice that an alleged legendarly fragrant HT, Crimson Glory is not mentioned. Probably too old. I once tried to grow it but it tanked early....See MoreMost fragrant? Most healthy?
Comments (25)In comparison (judging from the 2 out of 3 I have, and that it is still early-having planted these just in the Spring): 1. MIP & Heritage both appear to be doing well (no flowers yet on MIP) as far as foliage, though Souvenir de Dr. Reynaud seems a tad better than MIP on both counts. 2. Thought about Frederic Mistral, but went with the McCartney Rose instead (which seems to be doing well, though growing slowly, so far). May need to reconsider FM (but for 2010, so far for fragrance, leaning to- Desiree Parmentier, Climbing Clothilde Soupert & Marie Pavie). 4, or multiples thereof, seems to be optimal for shipping, though....See MoreWhat is your most FAVORITE fragrant smelling Hoya you love?
Comments (78)Hello all! I almost forgot about this thread. Thanks . Unfortunatly I lost this plant!! It fried in my greenhouse by accident. It fell behind a shelf and I never noticed until it was completely dead cleaning it up this past summer. I will forever miss this one. I am hoping to purchase another or some way get a cutting soon. It was one of my favorite and Greedyghost got the name right. if anyone knows a seller or a person willing to share, please let me know. Hopefully everyone is doing well) The description of the others here and the pictures are very nice. Thank you. Richard, it's the name that Greedyghost said shortly after I posted a pic of it. Comments (6)Last week I posted a pic of my Cathedral Windows in bloom...and it has chicken wire around it because of overactive dogs... but this weekend I went out and the blooms were bitten off of all the scapes!!!! Rabbits! Those scapes were 'leaning' over the edges of the chicken wire and I can just imagine those lousy rabbits standing on their haunches, or even standing up and resting their little rodent paws on the wire and munching away! Then, I went around to the other side of the yard and checked on my cute little Rhino Hide... it had distinctive bite marks in several leaves. Well, I cut off the bitten scapes from CW. And I trimmed the bitten part of the RH leaves - giving them a straight edge so I can tell if they get chewed on again. Then I sprinkled cayenne pepper all around the RH. Next day - no bite marks. But if it rains I'll have to re-apply. They've also been biting off the outermost growth on my Rose of Sharon - so there's chicken wire around that now, too. I think they like the new, tender growth. They haven't bothered my Rainforest Sunrise hostas. I kinda wish the foxes that used to live in the lot next door would come back....See Morestephanie_h12
