Electric Toothbrush - Oral-B, Sonicare?
Comments (8)I've used a Sonicare brush for years. We have a pair of them. Why would you necessarily want a charger that can charge both brushes at the same time? You're not supposed to leave the brush on the charger all the time because that will just destroy the batteries. Our current brushes are over a year old and still doing about two weeks on one charge. When one brush gets low, we leave it on the charger until it's finished (replacing it after use). Then the other will run low, so it will have a turn on the charger. I've never used the Oral-B flavor. I don't think a mechanical brush is going to be as effective as an eletronic style. (A motor moving the head vs electromagnets.) It is possible for an electric brush to be too harsh on your gums, so you do have to use them gently on the gums and then at an angle on the sides of your teeth. My hygienist said the brush should be held still, but I move mine around gently to ensure the bristles are touching all the surfaces. It does seem to help toughen up the gums so they don't bleed so easily when flossing....See MoreHave you been to an Oral Surgeon?
Comments (23)I went to an oral surgeon to have wisdom teeth taken out. Thank goodness I was put out, through IV. The roots were all intertwined with my other roots so it was cut stitch, cut stitch. A bit of a painful recovery but I was careful to follow Dr. orders. No straws! They cause dry sockets. Just get good pain relief and liquid and soft things to eat for a few days and you will be okay. My son, however had a major issue with his teeth in that his baby teeth had long adult like roots on them. They would have NEVER come out on his own. He needed braces so they had to go. He went outpatient to the hospital where they proceeded to remove 12 baby teeth at once under general anesthesia. He had already had his two front uppers and two front lowers removed by the dentist in the chair because they came in behind his baby teeth. The dentist offered to remove his teeth a few at a time, but we couldn't put him through that - doing it in the chair then needing to return several more times to have it done again. We were so glad that the oral surgeon did it this way because some of his teeth ended up breaking during removal. What a mess that would have been in the chair. He was 14. His permanent teeth have just finished all coming in. Poor guy!...See Moreoral diseases? (help please)
Comments (7)I just came back from the doctor because of my mouth. I had some dental work done a month ago and had some places appear in my mouth the next week. The first thought was a reaction to what the new crown was made of but it was the same material as my other crowns. Then I thought it was a food allergy cause I had been eating strawberries and cantaloupe both are highly acidic. Anyway it would appear to be getting better with the mouth rinse the doctor prescribed but never went away. This week my tongue has been very sore and red on the sides. The doctor said it was STomatitis, which is an inflamation of the muscous lining of the mouth. She said some people are more prone to get it and it often shows up after dental work. She has given me another rinse with an antibotic in it. She said though that if I had WHITe spots on the areas that it would be Apthous ulcers and that that would be treated differently. From what the OP described that might be what you have. I strongly suggest you see the doctor as she said that it could become very painful. I know how mine hurts and its not that. I am not trying to diagonse your problem but found it coincidental that she mentioned it. Hope your problem is better by now....See MoreStress induced mouth ulcers... any home remedies?
Comments (9)I tend to get those a lot, mostly from biting the inside of my mouth or tongue. The best thing I've found is zilactin, which is available over the counter at drugstores, typically by the lip balms and such. Apply as soon as you suspect one is forming, and if you bite your lip, apply it immediately. Apply 3-4 times a day, and they'll heal up in about a week. If you wait too long it takes longer to heal. Without the zilactin it used to take about 3-4 weeks for them to heal for me. Make sure you get the "regular" zilactin, which has alcohol, and not one of the variants which only contain a painkiller. My personal theory is that the ulcer is basically an infection, and the alcohol acts as a disinfectant/antibiotic to stop the infection. There's also a possible link between the foaming ingredient in toothpastes and canker sores / mouth ulcers. I think it's laurel sulfate or something like that. I switched to a non-foaming toothpaste for several years (Closys) and did notice that my canker sores decreased quite a bit. But unfortunately Closys doesn't have fluoride and I got some cavities so I switched back to a "regular" toothpaste. You may want to try the Closys until your reno is over (it's available at Walgreens)....See MoreDakota
