Best countertop for oil sitting on it all night?
Comments (30)equest: you can try the salvage place in Phenix City. Here is their info. They may have some more or be able to direct you. Reaves will likely know the names of other salvage places. I know there is more of the stone I have available in this guys field but he has moved away and I have no contact with the person who lives there now. Alternately I have my guy that did the soapstone and marble for me and he has access to lots of stone and has had salvage in the past. I will get his name for you. He is wonderful and very helpful. salvage ( they have places in Phenix City and Columbus GA)- Reaves Wrecking Co Inc 18 Old Brickyard Road, Phenix City, AL 36869-3640 (334) 297-2140 âÂÂ) Mike Jenkins - stone crafting : 678-953-1552 LL not at all ! I am glad to tell you that it was very easy for my cab guy to cut two pieces of the leftover teak and fit them to each side of the marble. They are glued to the supports underneath that hold the marble. There is a very tiny crack between but I just vacuum toast crumbs and they come right up. c...See MoreWhat Countertop Looks Like Marble--But It Isn't Marble?
Comments (23)Yes, I was told that some quartzite does etch. I was asking on the stone advise forum about one called Mont Blanc that was listed as quartzite by the stone yard and this is what I was told: Mont Blanc is not a granite. It was introduced as a quartzite which is harder than granite. But unfortunately it is not a quartzite. It is what we have come to refer to as a hybrid marble/quartz material. It will scratch and etch. It is suitable for kitchens as long as you treat it like a marble and install it honed. So although there are probably pure quartzite stones out there, there are also stones that may be somewhere in between. That means it is probably important to test the stone you are getting the make sure it is what you expect. I would be very upset if I got a "quartzite" instead of marble because marble was not practical for me and ended up with soemthing that would stain and etch anyway. Comments (151)LOL! Sorry I'm late, but this thread is hilarious :) If you plan to live in your house...design it for living. If you entertain, design it for entertaining. If you live alone and never have anyone over, no kids, no pets, etc...then you can have a show home. But take lots of pictures, because it's the only way anyone will ever see it. Just my two cents....See MoreOlive oil on marble
Comments (27)Sure! I use Porous Plus 511 - my fabricator applied it once before fabrication, once at installation, and I applied it again a week later. I'm sure there are various ways to go about it, but my fabricator told me to spray it on in small sections, allowing each sprayed area to slightly overlap (kind of like mowing a lawn) - methodically go over your whole counter area and then when you're done, go back to the place you started and wipe it off with a paper towel until you get to where you finished. Essentially, it will have *sat* on the slab for the few minutes it takes you to spray your counters which is long enough. Honestly, I've got a fairly big area to spray (island and perimeter) and yet the whole process takes me 10+ minutes. I was told to reapply it to the whole kitchen once a year and also to any etch marks (which to date I am the only one who can see them) when they occur. Hope that helps!...See MoreJoseph Corlett, LLC
