Japanese Holly is bare in the middle
Comments (1)hi its hard to address the problem w/o a picture ... it is not uncommon for shrubs to shed interior leaves .. due to lack of sun ... so i cant tell if this is normal.. or not ... i would suggest that you prune for exterior shape or form.. and quit sticking your head inside the plant .. and worrying about that.. lol ... check out the link for pix posting ken Here is a link that might be useful: How to Post A Picture (Photo)...See MoreJapanese Holly revivable?
Comments (3)If they had been established for a couple years and did that, then there would have been a good chance that they could resprout. But it sounds like the roots may have been damaged. You could dig one up and see what the root ball looks like. Sometimes if the plant was very rootbound, water can't penetrate so you think they are getting water and they're actually not and you'd see the same problem....See MoreDoes anyone have a strong opinion about Japanese sky pencil shrubs?
Comments (7)Original post says planting site location is near Houston. So depending where exactly Melanie is in relation to Houston she is apparently either in USDA 8 or 9. Either way winter cold at least is not expected to be a problem for Japanese holly. https://www.plantmaps.com/interactive-texas-usda-plant-zone-hardiness-map.php...See MoreBlack root infection of Japanese holly "Soft Touch"
Comments (5)what happened to your ability to post pix.. i swear since you moved to philly.. you refuse to post pix .. i agree with embo.. im not going to rely on your internet diagnosis of the problem .. post us pix.. and see if we can verify your suspicions.. or talk to your local COUNTY extension office.. and ask them to diagnose the issue properly ... and then suggest remedy .. other than just throwing that thing away... ken...See MoreLogan L Johnson
