Yummy dinner last night...
Comments (4)Nothing better than "growing your own" is there? We're not much for squash and zukes around here, but a mess of homegrown green beans with fresh picked tomatoes and some homemade cornbread just can't be beat! My beans got knocked out early by Bean beetles, but here's some toms I picked the other day. Ponderosa Red, Black from Tula, Striped Cavern, Beefmaster, what I'm calling "Mystery Grape" (as I don't know what it is), Sweet 100's, Jeff's Mystery Pink Oxheart, and a green Grandfather Ashlock (in no specific order). Abby...See MoreSo, what's for the dinner the night before?
Comments (31)Ah well, our houseguests are arriving this afternoon so we can't do a pre-Thanksgiving fast after all. We're going to have braised chicken. Picked up a pack of 12 thighs and deboned them. Roasted the bones, cracked each one, and those bones are now in the pressure cooker with some previously-made stock, red wine, onions, carrots and whatnot. They'll cook for an hour, then we'll strain to get a wine-y double-stock. The deboned thighs are brining away. When I get home from the airport, we'll braise the meat in the stock while I figure out a side dish. Something of carrots. Due to a shopping list miscommunication, we have 7 pounds of carrots in the refrigerator. Just a bit more than we actually planned. Let's see. According to my iPhone calorie counter app, I have 600 calories left that I can eat today. Got to stop nibbling if I want dinner....See MoreInteresting fork observation at dinner last night...
Comments (9)Luncheon forks in my mother's set of silver were the same as the salad forks. I just ordered double salad forks for my set to have enough salad and dessert forks. And then the china sets had luncheon plates too, which were larger than the salad plates but considerably smaller than the dinner plates. I do love old table services of silver and china. I especially love the finer Limoges as it reminds me of all the things my grandmother inherited from her family. Lovely shaped pitchers, pickle dishes, and sets of china. When we washed the dishes and I held a tea cup in my hand to dry, it was as if I were holding an egg shell in my hand. You could see the outline of your hand through the plate or cup if you held the plate up to the light and put your hand behind the plate....See MoreKitchen 90% finished & I almost burned it down last nite!
Comments (5)You could start a new trend, "toasted maple" or "smoker's dream" (I have burn marks on my piano from it's days in a Montana bar, maybe I should consider joining you!)! This reminds me of my 94 year old grndmother (with hair longer than she was!) who turned a frying pan on, laden with the oil she needed for her eggs, and then turned around to chat with my husband (hair loose). She never saw the flames, and actually never realized that my husband was getting the soda out of the cab next to her and dousing the fire and subsequently replacing the pan with a fresh one while continuing to chat! It was cute in a scary way, she was so content that morning! Glad you are ok and that the damage was minor....See Moreanoriginal
