Flat Bottom Sinks too flat?

Looking for a double bowl SS sink for our new home. Been looking for something in the $300-400 range. I had narrowed it down to an Elkay ECTRU32179R or a Kraus KHU103-33. However, I read some reviews on Amazon that the Kraus was a little too flat on the bottom and the water doesn't always drain properly.

Is this just installing errors (not making sure the counter is level), or is this a legit complaint?

It can be either. I don't know about Kraus but most manufacturer's will have a spec sheet that shows the slope. Some handmade style sinks (Rohl's farmhouse sinks come to mind) have a reputation for not always draining nicely but something stamped out on the line like Elkay should reliably match specs.

Personally, if other things were close to equal, I'd take an Elkay over a Kraus, for no good reason. :)

Thanks for the reply. Both spec sheets show a very flat bottom.

I was originally leaning towards the Elkay, but the Kraus is 16 ga (not that it really makes a huge difference) and includes more accessories. I can't tell if the Elkay even comes with drains and strainers?

Flat bottom. If you have the choice of 18 or 20 mil thickness, go with the thicker. Without an exact measure, the dished section will almost certainly be askew. Liners are almost always made a little smaller to stretch and fill spaces. The extra thickness Will accommodate you better and last longer. If they ask you, its the walls that need it most but with above ground liners, its normally all one thickness. Scott

No you’re not alone, we got the Allen + Roth Dennison Farmhouse sink and my husband was going nuts about the water just sitting on the flat surface, with crumbs just sitting there. The drain is not in the center, but to the far left side. Just not fun, so have to wipe the water and drips into the drain.

Hi, Mr. Rachiele, I know how you feel about divided sinks from what you've written on your website. [grin] The Vault actually does have offset drains, though you can't tell from the photo I've linked. I have thought about single sinks since so many here like theirs, but I have been cooking and washing dishes for many years and I know how I work, and a divided sink is best for the way I manage my dishes. A low-divide sink would allow me to wash and rinse large pans more easily and still give me the functionality of the permanent divide, which I need (I do not want a plastic wash basin). Here is Fireclay Luna Brick, both are the same tile sitting at two different counter locations. It feels "earthy" , it is not a perfect match, but it gives enough contrast for the white cabinets and is light enough to give the space brightness that I want. My concern is the variation between each brick. Fireclays web site's pictures are sometimes misleading. I attached Fireclay's image of Luna installed as a backsplash and it shows a lot of variation from one tile to the next and then the other photo they have looks more consistant in color, confusing. Plus their color looks totally different from my sample. Do you think it will be too busy for my space? That is a good idea to order several more samples of Luna. I do plan to do this myself. My bid came in at over 1,000 for a professional. I probably won't do a herringbone if I use this size of brick.

I have the Elkay ECTRU3017R sink. I don't find it to be too flat and the 18 gauge seems just fine. It's not flimsy in any way. It did not come with the drain or strainer. Mine has a disposal attached so I didn't need the strainer. You can order sink grids, though I never got around to it.

I have a kraus single bowl 32". Very happy with it and no problem with water draining. As long as it is installed properly you shouldn't have any trouble. The grate for the bottom is great. Don't use the strainer since we have a disposal.

My sink is flat on bottom with tight corners. Hard to clean. I'm chasing food all around the sink trying to get it down the drain. If I could do it over, I would get something else.
