Is your spouse/significant other a garden nut?
Comments (17)Paige, Don't give up on your hopes of finding a new partner who'll appreciate what you enjoy. You have something special about yourself that you can share! Look at it this way.... you can learn from someone else just as they can learn from you. This mutual respect that other posters mentioned is the key. When I met my 2nd husband he wasn't much of a gardener; he and his first wife had sporatically kept vegetable gardens over the years. After we married and bought a house, we we began to make it "ours" inside and outside. He started out just helping me to build walls, move rocks, shop for plants and dig the holds & plant. He'd go with me to garden centers and began to form his own opinions of what he liked to see in our yard, so we'd buy those plants/flowers and put them in. Because he's not fond of the daylily plants that I can never get enough of, I've slowed down that urge. Because he really loved the idea of a Heritage River Birch in our backyard, we planted one. He feels that the gardens are "his" too. Now I find him watering and weeding. He loves seeing the gardens change over time, I guess because they contain both of us. He tells me that he was influenced by my love of gardening and how excited I got over growing things. I kind of shared my hobby with him. But he also shared his hobbies with me. I appreciate his need to hear music played most of the time and his love of painting, so I support him with both his hobbies. I hang up his paintings all over our home... the other day he came home with a new orchid plant for our front room. Molie...See MoreRoommates or Husband / Wife?
Comments (150)As Mrgreenlawn says, while trying to find webpages I'd previously veiwed while planning our vacation, I pressed the wrong button, or did DD? Anyway all the pages came up as tabs and here was the original post. I glance at it and think, "this sounds familiar". I start to read it then DD whacks the computer again and it is gone. I tell DH about it when he came home. Later I read this thread. You all seem to enjoy the soap opera. Some of you seem to be considering the problem and offering advice and well wishes. Thank you for your concern. I was going to write an huge rebuttal but I'm not really interested in airing dirty laundry nor do I feel I need to defend myself by detailing what I consider personal. I will say that I disagree with parts of his account. Also, I was not truamatized, not homosexual, not medically or mentally ill. I love and like my DH, want to be intimate with him. I agree that I'm stubborn, complacent and can be selfish. From his posts I see that he is distressed and I already know there is a problem. If he wants to do couples counseling, fine, I'm not opposed. Our communication clearly needs an overhaul as what I perceived as an off hand comment (during a tense moment or arguement? can't truly remember) was to him a genuine invitation to therapy. If mrgreenlawn wants to continue this discussion with you, I'll stay out of it. I have no intention of creating my own posting....See MoreShould both husband and wife wear rings?
Comments (29)I agree with you, justcallmeb. I've never really like jewerly. I sometimes wear earrings to help flatter my face, but other than that most jewerly bothers me. And, diamonds seem just so absolutely materialistic, IMHO. I have a nice ring, but I hardly ever wear it. There's a commercial out now with a middle age couple driving in a car with a beautiful love song playing in the background.. the husband reaches over and hold's his wife's hand giving her a diamond necklace.. It just about makes me sick. Yeah, those diamonds prove that your guy likes you.. too bad he gave the matching diamond earrings to his secretary earlier that day. Maybe I'm just not romantic or my romance includes something totally different. Way to ruin a beautiful song (Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop by Landon Pigg). Comments (35)NO! I don't like to shop really. I shop like a guy. Go in,pick up what I need and I'm out of there. I'll browse places like home stores and kitchen places and I like to check out appliances and other house stuff but I'm all about function. I either drive salespeople nuts or quickly earn their respect when I refuse to let them sell me on the "cosmetics" of something. I want quality and function. I don't really care if the item comes in puce. I've been known to take things like ranges apart in the store. Not unscrewing or dismantling but removing all that lifts off, pulls out etc. I check for burrs and ask about factory finish. I look at weld and rivets and how well the anodize is on cookware. I heft things, check them for balance and think about how I will use the item. I used to take DH with me to shop for appliances but now I am confident enough in my mechanical abilities to do it without him. After all these years I understand how things are built and very often how they work. DH is more of a consumer than I am. He is more apt to make impulse buys than I am. So I don't like taking him shopping. I do send him shopping for groceries and stuff but always with a list. He always buys something extra. I'm the frugal one so I hold the purse strings. DH keeps a generous sum of walking around and personal expenses money and hands over the rest....See Morejakabedy
