Question about painting metal vents?
Comments (14)That is a beautiful fireplace (love the arch) and a very strong statement, so strong that it overwhelms the issue of the vents. Honestly, I had to LOOK for the vents in the photo. I see some on top of the raised hearth that are dark and already blend in very well (took awhile to see them), and something white or cream on the face of the raised hearth. Is that what you're wanting to paint? If so, I think I'd aim for the look of the one on the top of the hearth... sort of smooshy greys and blacks and just a very teensy bit of red. It would look better just looking, well, used, than looking like a brand new red painted vent, IMHO....See Morepainting caned chairs
Comments (4)Your idea sounds very elegant! I think you are not supposed to stain cane cuz it dries it out so paint is probably the way to go. I thought cane had to "breathe" to stay flexible, so maybe don't overdo it on the back side (don't coat totally, Imean)? I've seen old painted cane furniture and it has chipped a bit but that was seats. I think I've seen it painted on hgtv or somewhere with Krylon. I'd go to the store and read the paint cans. Post a pic when you are done. I've always wanted to cane a chair, but not sure I'll ever make it. Would love to hear about your experience. It also occurs to me that a fabric that was b&W and brown would coord with a black frame and natural cane. Just seems a shame to me to do all that work and then cover it up! Either way you would want to paint the frame of the chair first I think. kathy...See MoreTips on how to remove paint from cane backing?
Comments (6)Well I am doing the same type of project. I have a bench that I bought from an antique store. There is cain on the back and the sides. Someone spray painted it black! I did get a paint remover in a can at Home Depot. It is a spray on in a gold can. It says it only takes 15 min. This stuff is great! Sorry I don't remember the name but it is in the paint section. I have gotten most of the paint off. I also used a soft wire brush after I wiped off the paint with a rag.The problem I am having is in the crevaces, but I think it will be ok. I hope that it will cause the cane to look even more antiquish (word?). I'm spray painting the wood part of the bench a shiny black. I have a cushion I reupholstered (my first try) that is gold and black. Anyway, good luck with the project....See MoreQuestion about painting inside and outside picture frame moldings
Comments (2)I have these moldings in my dining room, which is small (maybe 12 x 14). Originally we had the walls painted a color (gray mirage) and the molding was painted the same as the trim color (china white). Later, when we repainted the room a bolder color, we painted the molding the same color as the walls. It does make the room seem larger. Our room is also "chopped up" quite a bit w/ windows and doors, and the molding just added to that and made the room too busy. Painting the molding the same as the walls was a real improvement. I can try to post a picture in a bit....See Morechibimimi
