Anyone that knows me, knows how much I love kitcheny stuff. Forever, I've bought the cheap, screen-style splatter screens to put over frying pans etc while cooking. They inevitably come away from the metal rim.
Soooooo, we came across this very cool stainless steel splatter screen made by Calphalon. It fits 8, 10 and 12" skillets (I've never had one to fit my 12" ones). It's gorgeous.
That's my birthday present!!! As well as a nice dinner at a local steak-house. They are running a promotion for the next couple of months, $40/couple to celebrate 40 years of business. How could we not take advantage of that??

Comments (5)Most likely the tree with small nuts grew from a nut or was a grafted tree and the graft died. Most of the big nut trees are grafts. Do you see a lot of "blooms" in the spring on the one that doesn't produce? If you have a lot of blooms but not many nuts it's a pollination problem. However the small nut tree should be a good pollinator for it. You did fertilize them too late, in zone 8 early March with 13-13-13 with zinc and you may need to add lime. Something that the "oldtimers" used to do to improve crops was to use Red Devil Lye on them. Drain cleaner! Crystal Draino will work, do not use liquid. They would sprinkle it around it at the drip line, edge of the tree limbs in the fall. It it seemed to work, but most people nowadays's do not recommend it! If you try it be sure to put your kids and pets up before doing it! You will need to water very good or wait until a rainy day to do it before letting the kids and pets back outside! Comments (1)Tell your Godson it looks great, I would plant it in a larger pot with drainage holes and good draining potting mix, I would also pinch the top where the new leaves are starting so the plant doesnt get to leggy. Be careful how you introduce it to the sun, I never keep mine in direct sun otherwise they burn. I'm in NY. Comments (6)I knew yall wouldn't laugh but I am excited since I got 0 last year. I learn every year more and more and that's what counts. I definitely will move the potato bed to full sun next year. This years bed was only getting about 4 hours 11-3. We did enjoy every bite cooked all together with onion. I went ahead and dug all the plants since the skins were ready and cleaned up another bed to replant for fall. I got 2 1/2 # potatoes off 6 plants 3 # of carrots that were hiding and 6# cucumbers plus a bunch of beets that were hanging out in a shady bed. Roasted with fresh herbs and onions will be a nice dinner. Comments (10)Do not get a satin nickel strainer (or anything stain nickel inside the sink). Satin nickel will corrode if you use pretty much anything other than hand soap or hand dishwashing detergent to clean the sink or clean items in the sink. Bleach, Bar Keepers Friend (and similar), etc. will all damage satin nickel. How do I know this? *sigh* experience. I have brushed stainless steel in my kitchen sinks (w/Satin Nickel faucets, soap dispensers, and air switch. However, I forgot to specify the same in our Powder Room and our KD put in not just a satin nickel faucet, but also a satin nickel drain - and it's now damaged from using BKF from cleaning. My recommendation is neither chrome nor satin nickel - instead, get stainless steel - brushed stainless steel. (if the chrome is brushed, it's probably fine.) As to using the strainer that comes with some sinks (not all include the strainer), we opted to not use it and, instead, got the Kohler DuoStrainer. The "free" ones are usually pretty cheap - the DuoStrainer is heavy-duty and locks both open and closed so it never closes on you when you want it open (or vice versa)....See More
