BM or SW Paint gurus: Need rec's for small half master bath
Comments (16)Thanks, rorah, and others. I tend to gravitate towards cool vs. warm colors here. Can you try a mock-up of the Stonington Gray since I have two gallons of it? Also, maybe the Powell Buff. Not sure about Kangaroo. ?? I would likely need to stop at BM and see what kind of samples they have of these colors. DH does like the Nantucket Fog, and he said he was skeptical about the gray for a BR. So, in all likelihood, we are going to end up keeping it, so, yes, that means painting the bathroom. At least I don't have to hire painters to do it. I have had some issues with balance and vertigo over the past couple years, so I did not feel comfortable taking on a job where I'd need extended time on a ladder or step stool, but I'd be able to do that small space. I could send DH up on the ladder, but I'm the painter. He is a wonderful man, but he is not handy at all. I've done this entire interior on our house except for this BR. If I did it while he was home on a weekend, that would be OK for safety. I'll probably need to sell the leftover Stonington Gray on Nextdoor. I also have 3 gallons of primer. They are about 2 years old but have never been opened, so I'm sure I can't return them. Comments (15)The way the color wheel goes green is the "warmest" of the cool colors and violet is the coolest. The most common theory of warm and color means splitting the color wheel in half and calling half warm and half cool. It's really an oversimplification of color that's not very useful. Perceptually, we don't sense color as a warm and cool continuum from one side of the color wheel to the other. Rather, warm and cool is a spectrum within each hue family. It's more useful, and arguably more accurate, to break out warm and cool in terms that are aligned to how we actually perceive colors. In the case of this color wheel, warm and cool is designated in the context of the human gamut of color - which is all the colors we can see plus colors that can't be seen or made (yet). When we reframe warm and cool in this context, then it's easy to see that there are indeed blues that are warmer compared to other colors in the same hue family (blue). Warm blues, from saturated to grayed, are from about 235° to 252°. Translated to paint colors, warm blues would be colors in this range: CW-660 CHISWELL BLUE, Benjamin Moore Williamsburg Color Collection HC-145 VAN COURTLAND BLUE, Benjamin Moore Classic colors AF-550 AMSTERDAM, Benjamin Moore Affinity colors 2127-50 PIKE'S PEAK GRAY, Benjamin Moore Color Preview...See MoreHELP! Can't choose between BM Quiet Moments and SW Sea Salt!
Comments (17)I sampled sea salt, quiet moments and rainwashed. In my very brightly lit, wall of southern windows (that have white plantation shutters that REALLY reflect our bright green florida lawn and our equally bright blue skies) open living space the Sea salt turned bright blue, quiet moments gray, and rainwashed bright green. All three of these colors look radically different and more like paint chip in my bright east facing bath that does Not reflect a lot of green and blue into room. i mixed 1/3 of each sample (measured with a scale for exact replicable measurements) and came out with a beautiful soft grayed green blue). Playing with other ratios today with same samples. my local paint store wouldnt take responsibility for calculating formulas based on my mad science projects, so they gave me all three individual formulas for me to calculate what i want. They will mix to those numbers. i am having them do a sample tomorrow with that formula to make sure it comes out good. good luck everyone....See MoreWhite dove(BM) or Dove white (SW) what is the difference
Comments (8)Benjamin Moore White Dove OC 17 LRV 85.38 / Undertones: Creamy greige / Temperature: Slightly warm White Dove accommodates a lot of different paint colours because while it is a warm white, it has an almost greige base that calms it right down. This way it doesn’t come off as creamy/warm as Cloud White, but also isn’t as stark/cool as Chantilly Lace. White Dove is a soft white, so it won’t act like white, but just a VERY slightly softer version of it. Pick it: If you want a versatile white trim/door/ceiling colour that will accommodate a lot of cool and warm toned paint colours throughout your home. If you want a warm, but not too yellow wall colour Ditch it: If you prefer a more clean, crisp look Instead: Check out Simply White or Decorators White SW Dover White has more yellow undertones, so is a more creamy white IMO....See MoreAnnie Deighnaugh
