Screened-in porch advice?
Comments (31)Justgotabme-can't wait to see more pix! Can I ask a silly question? Why did you remove the ceiling? Luckily, we had our porch wired for 2 ceiling fans when we built the house. The electrician looked at us like we were nuts when we requested this, and now we know why-it gets pretty windy out here in the country! :-) But we plan on installing the fans when the porch is screened in. Amysrq=LOVELY porch! I am attempting to google Harvey, and not coming up with much yet....I will keep looking. I am hoping to find a system that will use some really wide panels. Juliekcmo-good idea to screen under the porch, but that would entail pulling all of the boards up......but I will mention it to the contractor! Thanks! Comments (12)I have 4"×4" posts, front and back porches. Originally screened in, previous owner replaced screens with inexpensive vinyl sliding windows. Porch is covered by existing roof, has slanted plank floor over pier and beam. I'm planning on fully converting those porches to livable space, so I need to reframe most of the structure, add sill plates, level joists, build out walls 16" on center, etc. Most of the costs to convert would have been the foundation and roof, but since those are already done, and to code, I'm looking at mostly materials and a couple days of labor for framing. We will add sweat equity to finish interior. I haven't priced out windows yet, so those will be biggest cost, I think. Porches are 8 x 28. I ran electrical wiring already. So, long post but main issue for you *might* be foundation and roof. If those are up to code, then look at potential framing issues to support roof, insulation, etc....See MoreI need advice on front door ideas and a new porch color
Comments (12)Such great ideas everyone. OMG Melissa, WOW! The house looks so different without the shutters. I LOVE the SW Urbane Bronze front porch...even the walk way and driveway. I like the Bora Bora Shores front door rather than the yellow. Very nice. :) I really love it!....See MoreNeed Advice. Do a covered porch or built in screen? How effective?
Comments (2)To my understanding, a solar screen helps block solar, as in the sun. It's not really for blocking pollen. You would need to use pollen and dust window screening to block pollen, but it blocks less sun. Both solar screen and window screen blocks bugs....See MoreUser
