Weeping Snow Fountain Cherry Tree? Or Pink?
Comments (5)Hi Ken, it's not planted there. It's currently in its pot and I took the picture on the walkway where it's sitting till I figure out if it's a Snow Fountain Cherry or a Double Weeping Cherry. If it's a Snow Fountain it will be planted about 6' from a walkway. If it's a Double Weeping Cherry it will be returned....See MoreWeeping Cherry Varieties?
Comments (4)Bobby, keep that wallet in your pocket and look around. I got one 5' tall at a hardware store that puts a nursery in front every year. Bought it later in the season and it was reduced from $70 to $35 and in a 3 gal. pot. Put it in, it bloomed the next spring then I had to move it to put in a new patio. It loves the new spot as the feet stay shaded most of the day and a little damp. Last year it put on 7' of growth and bloomed really well this spring. I love mine. The birds love to sit in it too, an added bonus. A home one block over has one in their side yard and it is about 20' tall. And my neighbors liked mine so much they put one in their yard. Hope you find a reasonable one. Tina...See MoreDwarf Weeping Cherry Assitance
Comments (13)@akamainegrower - I can certainly contact the nursery to find out. While I bought it in July, they said (and I'm going strictly on what they told me) that the tree was being kept dormant, and so when it was shipped to me was the first time it came out of wherever they were keeping it dormant. I do like the tree, and don't want to just get rid of it. I still do want a weeping tree in my front yard, preferably with a dark pink or purple color. I was looking at a Lavender Twist Weeping Redbud, but can't really buy one now. When would be best to both purchase the new tree (preferably a well established one 3+ feet tall) and to transplant this Cherry to a new location. I have a spot in the back of my house that gets plenty of sunlight, and if this is a Nanking and it will produce fruit it will keep the mess away from the front of the house. Thanks...See MoreBest looking weeping cherry?
Comments (6)In later years weeping forms of Higan cherry have tended to be placed under Prunus pendula (rather than P. x subhirtella), with more distinct ones such as 'Pendula Plena Rosea' (double weeping) and 'Pendula Rubra' (darker pink, with leaves indicating this one may actually be of hybrid origin) having such cultivar names in the West. Japanese sources (and Western authors following them) use Japanese names instead, for the same plants. These growers have a couple (scroll down to Prunus) they claim resist shot hole at least. Don't know current retail presence. Have noticed the unfortunately named [Pink Snow Showers] = 'Pisnshzam' making an appearance on the local market, not sure it took hold however - but some places have cut back so much on trees in the current buying climate it is hard to tell if a particular kind not being presented repeatedly means anything or not. http://www.lakecountynursery.com/lcns-view-selections.html...See MoreHeruga (7a Northern NJ)
