We put IKEA cabinets in our last kitchen. We hired a local carpenter who did the bulk of the work in our kitchen, which included demo, extensive drywall work, laying new cork flooring, assembling and installing the IKEA cabinets and installing IKEA butcherblock countertops. We separately hired a plumber and electricians for those tasks. We were happy with the price, work, and outcome. So you do have the option of hiring someone else

I have used ikea assemblers for putting together pax wardrobes and a malm bed, with mixed experiences. I doubt those workers are the same people who are certified or whatever through IKEA for kitchen work--not to mention different locations--so I don't know that my experiences with other assembly are very relevant.

As far as checking out the company who came to do your measurements, you can look on Yelp, Google, check for licensing, ask for proof of insurance, ask for references, and ask everyone you know--heck, even post on Facebook.

thanks - how did you find your carpenter? did they do Ikea regularly or just all kinds of general work?

We found our carpenter via word of mouth. He did all kinds of general work and came with a specific recommendation from someone who had used him for a minor kitchen remodel (replacing cabinets, but not changing the layout). Iirc, he had no prior IKEA experience.

I think a lot of people who use Ikea are DIY but we aren't DIY either. Ikea is sending Traemand to measure and design for us; however, our GC will install the Ikea cabinets. Even if we didn't have the GC, we would not use Traemand though. Their reviews are awful.

Katrina, where I live I think Traemand basically just outsources to this other contractor so that to me means the reviews should be more about that contractor? Unless I'm misunderstanding the process.

Help please: so this is CME's website where they say they've installed "thousands" of Ikea kitchens (as Traemand subcontractor I assume). http://www.cmeco.net/home.html 

Is it a red flag to you that there's NOTHING about them online whatsoever, like they're some kind of fake company? I have messaged the other one recommended above, but so far I like CME's plans and would just as soon go with them.

Hi Erica M - I know this is an old post, but I was wondering whether you ended up having an Ikea kitchen installed through CME or Traemand, and if so, how it went? I'm considering an Ikea kitchen but cannot DIY.
