Does it seem like dip mega performers are gone?
Comments (17)This is why I enjoy plant forums...you get to hear other's real life evaluations and it can be very helpful....especially with lesser known plants Edward, good to know about 'Heavenly Angel Ice' not liking to be divided. Bit of a brain freeze about it winning the Stout for me...sure think it deserves it though!.....I will have to check out 'Yellow Monkey'...that branching is awesome! Now, 'Rose F. Kennedy' has been one of my best consistent performers year in and year out.; dip OR tet! But, I spoke with someone else this year who said it actually didn't thrive for them in their northern garden. Surprised me, because most folks I've spoken with have really liked its garden performance....another Stout contender in my book!...See MoreRose Cuttings Failure, never seem to root.
Comments (25)As Bluegirl said, there a lots of methods, probably as many as there are people trying to root things, and they all seem to work for somebody. You just have to find the one that works for you, lol! I've probably tried at least a dozen of them and none of them worked for me either. I came up with my own and so far it's working much better. Not perfect, mind you, but better. I don't think there's any method that works 100% of the time. You're dealing with living things after all and they can be contrary. I use a similar method to what I do with my seedlings. Clear plastic cups with holes punched in the bottom filled with SEED STARTER soil (not potting soil) and out in the sun with the seedlings, no covers. I keep them watered, never letting them get completely dried out, and wait patiently to see roots in the cups. By the time the root structure is big enough to show on the outside of the cups they're large enough to pot up into regular potting soil. I have had the best success with this method and there's no "hardening off" time because they've been outside in the sun and elements the whole time. I lost a lot of cuttings in that hardening off phase so I took it out. Either they make it in the outside world from the git go or I don't want them....See MoreYour newly planted roses that seem prolific?
Comments (32)None is more prolific in my garden than Dick Clark. It sent out these huge 8ft long canes with large candelabras of about 20 rose each. It also shot out 2 new basal breaks all since November (no frost here) when I planted it. It was a nice sized plant when I got it, but man did it take off. Easy Does it is my other huge producer. It takes small breaks between flushes but each flush has easily 50 roses or so. Moonstone is my other big bloomer. It too shot out a couple of new basal breaks recently and it has also been in the ground less than a year. Love is another one that blooms a ton, but I'm not too happy with the blooms as they seem to open wide and not have much of the hybrid tea shape that I was looking for. Its not pointed at all but very round. But it does bloom profusely. I'm wondering if the heat makes her more rounded. I always thought she should have been more pointed but all of her flowers are rounded. Veteran's honor has really taken off as well since I put it in the ground just a few months ago. Its on fortuniana. Sun Flare, a small but floriferous floribunda has bloomed a ton in its rather small pot....See More'Beverly Eleganza Returning'.....is this a new form of Beverly?
Comments (13)After (with my scarf trying to imitate mask) trying to avoid the micro droplet cloud from the vigorously, repetitively coughing giggling full face exposed white lady who was allowed to freely roam the aisles at the Union NJ Costco this morning ( with multiple surgical masked Costco employees and N-95 outfitted uniformed local policemen passing her by, all unphased) during senior and immunocompromised hour, I did a quick survey at a nearby HD garden center. I had missed out on Beverly from Palatine this winter. I had waited too long. I saw $ 8.95 containerized grafted Beverly (s) in black tapered “Showtainer” pots from Pan American Nursery ( interestingly also from Niagara on the Lake). I saw Summer Sun, too. I suspected the $8.95 indicated off patent. I wasn’t sure the Beverly was off patent, and thus wondered if this was a ” different” Beverly. So I didn’t buy one. Now, at HMF, I’m seeing there’s not another Beverly. US patent application 2008, and patent 2013. So this $8.95 grafted Kordes rose of some merit is currently on patent? Any thoughts? Plants I saw had either 2 strong canes or 3 ( or more) lesser ones....See Morebarbarag_happy
