Paint wrought iron balusters?
Comments (11)McClark, yes the carpet is a solid tan (light tan). I love an oriental runner with exposed treads, especially coming down to a hardwood floor. Wish I knew how to post a picture, I'm going to do a search how to. Anyway, as you intuited, the stairs are very linear. No curves. Only one side of the stairs have exposed treads/risers. Due to the design of the staircase the "back" side of the stairs goes to the wall and the builder did not put exposed treads on that side, the carpet goes to the wall. IE, only one side of the tread is exposed So I wonder how an oriental runner would look in an asymmetrical arrangement like that. I will try to post a photo. We used to have a big dog, a German Shepherd, what a darling. Of course he scratched up the oak floors in two houses but I'd have him back in a minute! No replacement yet but nonetheless I am still a big dog lover and always will be. Marti, those really are pretty staircases, especially the curved silver one. They are clean and light and fairly contemporary. Mine is dark and fairly traditional, the dark being my main objection. I really have to post a photo. I will go look how to do that now. Thank you for finding and posting the photos....See MoreShabby chic headboard idea, wrought iron storm door, paint or not
Comments (2)If everything else is going to be white, then the headboard will look out of place being black. Does everything have to be white? fwiw, Shabby Chic stores have many vintage pieces and they are not white. Actually, Ashwell has headed away from all furniture being white. Even the wooden beds the stores sell are a soft gray. There is a white poster bed with a distressed finished. Check out her blog (linked on the home page, far right) for more pictures. Her website does not show vintage pieces for sale, but there are some in the photos. Can you post pictures of the room and other things going in it? DD1 lives in San Francisco and has been decorating with SC furniture and bedding for five years now. She has gone from mostly white and pink to mostly soft gray with touches of color in accessories (pillows, artwork, etc) Here is a link that might be useful: Shabby Chic website...See MoreQuestion about boxing out wrought iron porch columns
Comments (24)Yes, fiberglass. Not diy project but an easy handyman job. However find one who has done it b4 and ck references on those specific column projects. If your columns are structural, they just put a temporary right next to old one BEFORE removing old one, then proceed with replacement. HST, seems like what you have would become invisible if painted same color as house. A very economical update. I think one of those pretty wraparound columns might make the column too much of a feature (chunky). The wrought iron is frilly, yet strong. Then again, big porch stairs will take center stage so wraparound column won't appear chunky. im vacillating but I think I'm leaning towards just painting....See MoreMCM ranch --- keep exterior wrought iron columns or replace?
Comments (39)Actually it's been awhile since I started this posting. I got new windows, they are taupe. It blends with the area painted underneath the window. I've planted native shrubs and perennials in the front garden - it gives a more ''natural'' look, with various green groundcovers instead of mulch. I'm a fan of native plants. Gives the house a casual look....See MorePines Everywhere
