WANTED: Easter and Thanksgiving cactus
Comments (0)Hi, I've been trying to find Easter cactus or hipsalidopsis gaertneri, other than pink but orange, red and white. If you have any cuttings to share I would really appreciate it (please see my trade list below). Easter cacti bloom once a year around Easter or spring/ around April- May. The leaf margins are smoother than Thanksgiving cacti or Schlumbergera truncata and have brownish hair bristles at their tips. Also looking for yellow/ salmon/ peach/ red/ orange (except pink and white) Thanksgiving cactus or Schlumbergera truncata. Thanksgiving cactus sections end in points or claws, they bloom twice each year, between October and February, then again between March and May. I don't have any cuttings to trade but I have so many seeds to offer or I can pay for First Class postage: # Bird's eye chili (short fruits- spicy) from Indonesia # Bird's eye chili (long fruits- spicy) from Indonesia # Columbine: soft pink blooms, harvested June 2013 # Hawaiian Ipu Groud (8 seeds) # Ipomoea aquatica or kangkong; a semiaquatic, tropical plant grown as a leaf vegetable. # Mixed Tomato seeds # Dill ( Anthemum graveolens) # Carnival Squash # Cantaloupe # Cilantro # Parsley # Bachelor Button Mix # Red Poppies # Swiss Chard (Fordhook Giant) # Spinach ( Bloomsdale Long Standing) # Pak Choi...See MoreEaster Cactus...just a few days late
Comments (4)Oooo very pretty! Thanks for sharing :-) Do you consider EC to be harder to care for than TC? I just recently got some segments off of one that someone brought into my work as a thank you. It looked like it was going to kick the bucket, so I grabbed a few before it was too late. I'm starting to see roots now! If I ever get them to bloom, the flowers are a really nice red color....See MoreHere is a few of my Thanksgiving cactus. Early is right!
Comments (4)They're sooo beautiful! The color is great. See... makes me want to stop at WM on the way to the dentist in the morning. Thanks..lol My neighbor has monsterous TC, grew them from a two segmented cutting in cheap potting soil. From there she has propagated lots more. It seems she has the touch....See MoreChristmas, Easter and Thanksgiving Cactus
Comments (22)Hi garden, Congrats on all your new flowers!! I bet its beautiful. Since I'm pretty new to them, but can tell you that I am using a fast draining mix, so that the soil doesn't stay wet too long. My mix is a little more complex, but I know a lot of people that grow them with great success with Cactus soil and lots of perlite, or you can add some coarse silica sand(not fine sand)pumice, gravel, or small pine or fir bark mixed in your potting mix. If it were mine and because you live in zone 7 I would wait till spring and definitely after its done blooming and warms up, just my humble opinion...good luck! :o)...See Moredebbie_ms
