Name That Plant!

Is this just a weed? ID help!

This is my first post, so thank you everyone for your patience and help!

I am just starting to try and propagate plants and found this pretty plant in my yard. The leaves come in green, slowly develop lighter green speckles, then turn pink (you can see it starting on that right-hand leaf, although it is yellowing a bit too). Anyone have a clue as to what this is? It is rooting nicely in water and I plan on planting it and a few others soon. Thanks!

I am afraid that from that little bit it isn't possible to give you an id. You don't even tell us if it is a shrub, perennial, vine or annual. Can you show us a picture of the plant it came from? The coloration looks like a nutritional or disease issue to me rather than an intentional variegation.

If absolutely forced to give an opinion I'd say it looks like a Solanaceaous plant such as Solanum crispum. But that is a wild, wild guess.

or mites sucking on the backs of the leaves ...

you need to give us pix of the whole plant ... then get an ID.. then decide if you want to root them ...

if it is what flora suggests ... the nightshade family might not be one you want more of ... as many are poisonous ... and many arent ... hence the need for an ID first ...

I don't know what it is, but i cut one down on my property. It grew from seed and within two years, it was about 25 feet tall! I have seen them planted in parking lots here and also growing wild (not sure if native or introduced) in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada (Millerton Lake to be more specific).

As you stated, there indeed are a number of plants that have a similar appearance. A picture of one going to flower would allow a more sure ID, but, chances are that products that treat dandelions would work on this one. hortster

Hard to tell from the picture, but check out Houttynia cordata. Looks similar, but I may be wrong. If my guess is correct allow it to grow, use herbicide - then allow it to re-grow, use herbicide - keep repeating. A plant that should not be allowed. hortster

Definitely not Garlic Mustard, it does not spread vegetatively (thank goodness, it's bad enough as it is!!). Definitely not Wild Ginger, at least not the native one. Unfortunately, I don't know what it actually is! Reminds me of some Campanula I saw in another thread, at least that's the best ID they came up with (on Name That Plant). Doesn't it ever flower?
