I've never had so many blind shoots
Comments (6)Every spring is different up here in the mountains of Nocal. I no longer prune by the calendar, but follow the rule of waiting until the forsythias bloom. I've noticed that in some years they bloom two weeks ealier than others. If I wait, I don't see as much blind growth. What I find interesting is that the forsythias will bloom at different times ... by a few days, or even weeks, in different parts of town, which says something about the microclimates. We had a warm January this year and a lot of people went ahead and pruned their roses, but since my forsythias hadn't shown any sign of blooming, I waited. I am glad I did because February and March were unusually cold for this area. I see very little blind growth since I started following this old rule. This timing may only be true for the colder climates, but it seems to work for me. I usually wait until the estimated last frost date for this area before I feed the plants to encourage any new growth. It's kind of a conservative approach, but it seems to protect the new growth. Comments (4)I've had my Plumeria for two years and all you need to do is put it in the garage and DO NOT WATER IT till spring. It will loose it's leaves and that's ok. It will come back come spring time, once all danger of frost is over put the Plumeria outside give it a good watering wait a week and then water again then fertilize it. I just use MG. For the Roses they will be fine in the pots outside. I have about 5 in pots year around. No need to wrap the pots on them. I have over wintered purselane but it get's really leggy and ugly and lots of bugs. I've done it both inside and in the garage, in the garage I cut them all the way back and left them alone, come spring time I place the pots outside and water the dickens out of them. They really do well if the get lots od rain water. IMO I don't think they are worth the hassle, That's why now I'd buy them each spring if I want some and I love Purselane and usally do buy a few. I don't know what the green with purple flowers ground cover thing's are in with the roses but you might try digging them out and putting them in another pot?...See MoreI lost my mother today and I've never felt so alone.
Comments (9)I know you don't feel it now, but it will get easier. You will smile again I promise. One day you will feel peace again, I promise. I lost my mom 2 yrs ago. Yes, it still hurts. I cried tonight, out of the blue, because I missed her.But it is the first time in 2 months that I have done that. I have came a long way. I am not where I want to be, but I thank God I am not where I used to be.I am still healing. Please remember this. Nobody, not even God, can fully take your mother away. You will always be part of your mother. You have her genes, her blood, maybe her hands, maybe her eyes, maybe you laugh like her, walk like her. She made you. You were inside of her, and you are part of her, always. You can't get away from that. She is with you everywhere. Go outside, look up at the stars, and talk to her. Find a star, that you connect to, and close your eyes. Connect with her, and she will guide you. She is your angel now....See MoreI've lost ten pounds. (so far)
Comments (22)Debby-that is really something to be proud of. I just gave up sugar in sodapop. I can't give up everything- yesterday I even ate (one) Mallomar cookie. In the old days , it might have been half the box! Oh, I am 'tiny". I am just 5 foot one inch. at 150 lb, my BMI body mass index was over 30 percent, that's what doctors look at. I'd be happy to weigh 130 or thereabouts....See Morebossyvossy
