Advice on choosing finish fir plumbing fixtures
Comments (1)I think it probably depends more on the overall look you are going for in your home and how things coordinate with all the things you are choosing and what style home you have. I'd be more concerned (personally) that the fixtures looked good with the lighting fixtures, the cabinet and door hardware, etc. It's kind of a chicken/egg thing...those items can be selected to coordinate with the plumbing finish you select, too. If you have your heart set on something, either plumbing finish or a certain countertop, you probably can find the other elements that would complement whatever you've selected first....See MoreFinding your style...
Comments (18)If the phrase "my style is" gives you hives, try on "I tend to like" or "I have a lot of" or "I can't stop looking at pictures of X right now. I'm not even sure I like it, but I can't stop, so I must be attracted to it, right?" You need to see all kinds of things, look at magazines and books and art and movies and even things that don't seem related. Know your tastes in other things, and that may help. For me, I don't have a single favorite color. Or a single favorite food. Or a single favorite movie. So how could I have a single "style"? My house, and the things in it, are a reflection of me, my life, my journey, all my cumulative tastes and experiences. It is NOT "well edited". It is NOT all in perfect taste, but because weird things often sit on or next to beautiful things, they look kind of cool. Eclectic is a great word. I think this has many advantages. I used to move around a lot, so nothing matched, so I never have to worry about furniture or frames or anything being the "odd man out". I think the best thing you can do for so many reasons is to delay buying anything for as long as possible. Then buy only what you need, one item at a time. Buy only what really knocks your socks off. Buy only really good-quality items -- or the best that it is reasonable for you to afford. There are well made items at all price points, it just takes a little time to find them. Don't be too eager to fill up your house. Borrow furniture if you need to rather than spend on cheap intermediate furniture, rugs etc. that still cost money and clutter your head and house. It also takes the pressure off, thinking you have to have a unified design theory worked out by next week. You don't. And surely whatever you choose will need updating at some point. Everyone's tastes change. So relax and take your time....See MoreNeed advice choosing a siding color for a new Victorian style house
Comments (3)We aren't going quite that bright, but I appreciate your input! I'm getting some samples this week from our lumber yard - Certainteed's "Ivy Green" and also all the following from Sherwin Williams - Roodwood Blue Green, Rookwood Sash Green & Dried Thyme. Has anyone had any experience with any of these colors for your exterior?...See MoreHelp with an Area Rug under Dining Table
Comments (3)Sheilaaus, Thanks for your comment on the table. I first came across a listing for this table and bench on Craigslist about a year ago. At first I thought that it was a custom built and / or a very expensive set. However, I discovered that it is sold at the Ashley Homestore. On their website, the price on these pieces fluctuate on a regular basis. However, the table and bench are currently on sale and Ashley is running an addition 10% promo, which brought the price for both pieces down to $1135. This was the cheapest that I have seen them over the last year or so and I decided to jump on them (linked below). Both the table and bench are VERY heavy. Each piece is solid and seems well built. We also bought our bed from Ashley (stock picture below) and have been very happy with it. IMO, it seems with furniture that some of their pieces are well built and other pieces are not. If at all possible, it's definitely worth finding a showroom and checking out the pieces that you are interested in to see the build quality. https://www.ashleyfurniturehomestore.com/p/ranimar-dining-room-table/d686-25/...See MoreRelated Professionals
