The NYT says Mother Nature doesn't give a hoot about us.
Comments (6)" " I think of Obamacare as the END of free socialized medicine for example lol." Yeah...exactly. I definitely see Europe, Canada, and the rest of the first world discontinuing their socialized medicine, because the tea party says Obamacare is unamerican. In other news, China will feel sorry for us and forgive all our debt to them, and the Middle East will decide Israel is so well run compared to other countries in the region that they deserve much more territory. " That is good. I have a love/hate relationship with the system of Romney and Obama but I think making everyone pay for insurance fixes the math for a few more years if done right. Let me explain. The OLD Reagan era system was the FREE socialized medicine. I have a bum friend who went in and had her gallbladder removed on your and my dime under that system. Was it life threatening? Not immediately. Is her credit hurt? For a few more years, but with that $10,000 she saved she can buy a car with cash lol. Reagan, Nixon, Carter, they just couldn't tell that folks would demand insurance companies spend every last dime they had to keep them alive into their 80's. No one did anything about this treatment before payment system and we (me and you with money) just paid for everyone's free healthcare. Now at least folks will be scared of filing a tax return if they don't have insurance. I was at the auto repair shop today. If I can't afford to get my MarkVIII repaired I either have to do it myself or it dies. There is capitalism at work. Just like at the vet where hand me down equipment and lighter regulation still left my mother in law the choice of going bankrupt or watching her rat terrier die from a probably curable tumor. Oh well. But yeah, back to the topic. Mother nature doesn't care if you get cured or not. I more or less do. On my more cynical days I just don't want the poor people layin in the street waiting for Jesus to cure them uglyin' up my neighborhood and sharing their germs with me. Most days I recognize if I ever need some silly expensive genetic treatment myself I better help you pay for yours....See MoreWhat if the seed packet doesn't say?
Comments (7)...so is "Beefsteak" and other Plantation Product are heirlooms? NOT Necessarily! It means that 99.99% of American Seeds seed packets contain varieties that are Open Pollinated as opposed to varieties which are not. All heirloom seeds are also open pollinated. But just because a seed is open pollinated does not make it an Heirloom. Quote: The definition of the use of the word heirloom to describe plants is highly debated. One school of thought places an age or date point on the cultivars. For instance, one school says that the seeds must be over 100 years old, others 50 years, and others prefer the date of 1945 which marks the end of World War II and roughly the beginning of widespread hybrid use by growers and seed companies or industrial agriculture. It was in the 1970s that hybrid seeds began to proliferate in the commercial seed trade. Another way of defining heirloom cultivars is to use the definition of the word "heirloom" in its truest sense. Under this interpretation, a true heirloom is a cultivar that has been nurtured, selected, and handed down from one family member to another for many generations. Additionally, there is another category of cultivars that could be classified as "commercial heirlooms," cultivars that were introduced many generations ago and were of such merit that they have been saved, maintained and handed down - even if the seed company has gone out of business or otherwise dropped the line. Additionally, many old commercial releases have actually been family heirlooms that a seed company obtained and introduced. Regardless of a person's specific interpretation, most authorities agree that heirlooms, by definition, must be open-pollinated. They may also be open pollinated varieties that were bred and stabilized using classic breeding practices. Comments (3)Those bread crumbs could have been dipped in antifreeze or another poison. Please make certain your pup is on leash in that area in the future, and you can teach her not to put things into her mouth by carrying a tiny travel size toothpaste or a tiny bottle of tobasco and dose your dog (it takes very little) after it puts something in its mouth it should not have there. I trained my dog this way, when he was a pup, I would take a tiny dab of the toothpaste (smaller than your little fingers fingernail) and place it on your dogs tongue, now some dogs actually like toothpaste and so tobasco sauce can work as well. A small dab should do it. A couple of times and your dog will stop puttig things in its mouth. It took my dog only 3 times, tho I carried the travel tube for 6 months. Good luck, hope your dog is okay....See MoreIt doesn't have to be all bad......all the time
Comments (2)Wow-this great news! I'm so happy that your Ds & Dh are beginning to develop a true bond and enjoy each other. Yes, it is amazing how sneaky kids can be but it seems in this case he had his own bio dad putting negative thoughts & behaviors in his head. That is truly disgraceful of him to cause such problems for his own son. I'm so happy things are really looking up for you & your family. And congrats on the lil peanut :0) _Cat...See MoreBabka NorCal 9b
