Is there such a thing as a double sided electric fireplace insert?

Hi,

I have been searching the internet but haven't had much luck finding what I am looking for and am beginning to think it may not exist!

I have a double sided (pass through) masonry wood burning fire place between my family room and formal living room. We never/rarely use this and would like to convert it to something we would use and would be more convenient/safer. Gas is out as we do not have access to install a gas line and don't want to keep a propane tank on the side of the house.

I'm interested in an electric insert for the convenience/safety and ability to use as a space heater in the winter. However, I cannot find anything that is double sided except for a Dimplex model that may be too large to insert (39") Does anyone know of another double sided model or if single models can be used back to back?

The problem you will have is that you are looking for an insert that will fit your existing fireplace box. That is not likely to happen. You will most likely need to change your existing opening to accommodate the new electric fireplace.

I don’t know where you are looking but I find many and if you are removing the old one then you can make the opening whatever size you want and just cover the whole thing with new facing.. I would check with your local fireplace store

Also take a look at the view between the two rooms. If that's a relatively open sunroom (no curtains) you now have a straight shot view into your great room. That might not be a big deal, but only you can decide. We stayed in a renovated B&B where they decided to put a double-sided fireplace between the bedroom and the adjacent bathroom that had a large jacuzzi tub. It added ambiance to the bathroom, but also allowed someone laying on the bed to have a straight shot view of whoever was sitting on the commode in the bathroom. Site lines were not planned well. Yes! I ordered a fireplace insert thing that uses STEAM -- and we couldn't have chosen better. Don't remember the name, but we ordered it from Target. When the steam comes out it looks exactly like smoke. There are fake logs and orange lighting and we love it!. I decided that we really didn't need to see both sides of the fire at once, so I made black curtains to hang on the back side, making the two sided look (from the front) like a one sided. We just ignore the back side and it looks great.

The glass is generally CODE. There are ten million options for two sided fires. The only way to avoid this is a vent FREE option. Trust I studied his you tube on them for a while before purchasing mine, not from him as Im In New Orleans but wanted to educate myself prior to purchasing one , check him out if they make I promise he knows the brands , sizes , drawbacks , benefits etc. I saw one last year that had viewing from both sides on his you tube he talked about it was a water vwpor technology but Look on his channel and scroll through
