Is this a weed or a grass, what is it, and how to kill it.

I have an unusual weed/grass that grows very strange. It grows in a circle'ish pattern like a crown. I have tried a multitude of things to kill it but in the end I had to hit it with roundup. The issue is it is popping up all over my yard. So I need to identify it then see what will kill it other than roundup.

Dig up a clump of it and see if it there are bulbs. I see some tips that do not resemble grass.

Here are some more details. I live in South Carolina and this only pops up during the hot months when crab grass starts growing. It grows about three times faster than fescue. I will dig a up a clump and get some better pictures.

Nutsedge will blow itself through most plastic and fabric. The tips of nutsedge, especially when young, are sharp and stiff/strong. It is a beast of a horrible weed. It's easy to pull, but it can reproduce very easily from tuber pieces. The best management is to kill/pull (I prefer pulling) when *VERY* young...before they have a chance to set or recharge their tuber. Start pulling and keep pulling (especially before it sets seed) for the next few years...or you can use a herbicide treatment, but given that can take days I wouldn't want to give nutsedge any advance vs. pulling. Eradication is very very hard. There's no spray and walk away forever treatment for it. You'll need some patience, but at least it's a small plot to watch over and control.

Most likely it is "Poa annua", annual bluegrass, This is a cold weather "weedy" grass that will die out in a few weeks. It is often used as a nurse grass in seed mixes since it does germinate much more quickly than most others. Most often, in established lawns, the seed will germinate and start to grow in late August and most all pre emergent need to be in place about 6 weeks before, so usually mid July is when to put them down.

This looks like Dallisgrass, and if so, it is a terrible weed. The bane of my existence. I've got Bermuda here, which stays pretty short. The Dallisgrass grows nearly quadruple the speed, and sprouts seed heads nearly overnight if we get a good rain. The only surefire way to kill it is to spray it with roundup. Unfortunately.
Now, the trick to doing this with warm season grasses is to spray the roundup when your grass is dormant for the winter, since the Dallisgrass stays green a few weeks longer. However, I'm not sure if fescue would offer the same window as bermuda would, so you may want to do some research on it. Ultimately, though, you're going to want to kill these things however possible. Personally, I'm okay with sacrificing a bit of beauty and get the brown patches where I kill the stuff so it doesn't spread more.
