5 volt power supply question

I have a 5 volt, 350 mA power supply for an electronic device that was zapped by lightning. The model number is GPE053 050035Z. The closest I have found is a GPE053 050100, which I assume is 1000 mA. Is there a chance that this would work, or is the output too high?

A volt meter from Radio Shack costs $20. If you don't have one, you need one anyway. That would let you check the power supply. But you don't need to go there. If the monitor green light is on, it means the power supply is working. There is a high-voltage inverter inside the monitor which drives the backlight. That may be what has gone bad. Either way, none of this is consumer serviceable stuff. Get a new monitor and be done with it.

the adapter is "b*llsh*t" A 220v dryer can't work on 120v I never heard of such an adapter and I bet no UL label. I'd complain to your city building / electrical inspector and then to the place you bought it. The outlet should have beed changed to a 4 wire outlet, if there is 3 wires & a ground wire in the outlet box. US dryers don't usually come with cords attached because some old houses still have 3 wire oulets, newer homes are built with 4 wire outlets. Otherwise you may be able to change the dryer cord to a 3 wire 220v cord. Check with Miele.

Well, I had a plumber that didn't know what he was doing when he installed the pipes. He actually wanted to run all 16 jets off the 2" pipe. Luckily there is a 1 1/2" pipe that I can use too. The jets are small, I think 10gpm. I plan on running the 3 drains with 2" pipe into a 4" pipe to pump then the 2" return will run 10 jets & the 1 1/2" will run 6 jets. Will this work ok? Unfortunately I cannot change pipe sizes any more....they are all in concrete already. Then the question about the air supply, which way I should go. I just did this. We rented a trencher, and installed 2.5" conduit from the pole to our pedestal area - 350' or so. Electric co would have probably sent out a contractor and run it directly through a grove of trees we're working hard to save, etc. For a new service, the electric company gave us an "allowance" for underground wiring and the setting of a transformer, etc. It was about $2500 and works for a "normal" house. Of course our house (and it sounds like yours) isn't normal and that allowance won't cover it. They wanted it 3' deep. We rented the trencher attachment for a bobcat. takes a little getting used to. Then - getting all the right pieces of the conduit - straights, 90 degree elbows, 30 degree bends, etc - we also have to manually dig UNDER a huge footing for a 5' retaining wall, deal with rain / mudslides, the damn hole filling up with water, pumping it out, etc. It was a GIANT PITA. And now we have to run some mule tape so that the Electric Co can install the service and set the pad. Time consuming. Manual. Messy. The conduit isn't particularly forgiving so however it moves / has to bend means that you have to have all the right fittings or dig a much bigger area. I suspect this would not have been THAT expensive for us to contract out and honestly - we should focus out slave labor / sweat equity on things that are higher value. I would only do it if you could 1) do it in a single weekend 2) access was REALLY open / easy so you could rent the Bobcat attachment (not sure the walk behinds go deep enough), and 3) it was more or less a straight shot with not a lot of bends.

When comparing one power supply to another, what matters is the output and the polarity of the plug (if that's what the connector is). Brand doesn't matter at all.

True and as long as the voltage is the same should be ok.

So, the possible dangerous situations are:

If the voltage is too high for the device.
If the amps are too low for the device.

As a general rule, devices that produce a lot of heat or light or movement usually need a high current supply. Devices that control things, like a TV remote or some small gadget with maybe a few LEDs on it, won't need a lot of current.

It is from an Eos wireless - they don't sell them anymore. I use it to send net radio and Pandora to my stereo in another room

So, it appears if the voltage is correct and the amps are almost triple what they were on the old unit, I will be OK - not too much amps. I assume if the connector is not the same I can splice on the old connector?

Watts= amps x volts. What you are describing is not a "match" simply because both are 5 volts.

If you supply the device with 1000mA, it's getting 5 watts instead of 1.75 and could be a problem for the circuitry of the device.

You can have the same functionality with an Apple Airport Express (works with both a Mac or a Windows PC) or with a more expensive bit of hardware, a Sonos Connect.

Elmer J, that was my concern - too much power output into the device. As an alternative I have been using an old cell phone's wifi. It works for net radio, but I have not figured out how to sign into my Pandora account.

If it's a smartphone, download the Pandora app. There are both Android and iPhone versions (though if an iPhone is too old, it can be locked out of the App Store).

Or use an Android tablet or iPad and connect the headphone out socket on the mobile device to RCA plug-input on your amplifier. A suitable Y cord with the right plugs is easily found.

I have downloaded the Pandora app. However, I can't find where there is an option to sign in like there is on my PC when I am at the Pandora site.

That's true. The part number he cited would seem to be manufacturer-specific and he said he couldn't find it. My comment was to suggest that one from a different source but with the same specs as the broken one would be not identical but certainly equivalent.

shuffles, if you start the app and get into it, you should find the opportunity to sign in to your specific account. I say this from my experience with installing the app on three different Android phones, an iPod and an iPad.

I had no trouble logging in to Pandora on my cell. However, the cell I want to use for Pandora is already signed in by another user. I can't find where I can change the log in.
