Should the grout be the same color? Not necessarily. Will it look weird to use a darker gray on the floor and a lighter gray in the shower? Not at all. Any recommended colors for the shower and floor tiles along these lines? I've been getting stuff at Lowe's and they carry MAPEI Warm gray for the subway tile, and silver for the hex, if you lke a darker grey for the hex. Silver is actually a medium grey, but it'll appear alot darker with the white tile. Our bathroom isn't perfectly square. I think a colored grout seam that is uneven will be really obvious(that's my understanding where you would do any flubbing). Can you grout just the seam white? Can you skip grout and caulk it? Any suggestions here? Grout everything on the floor the same color. it'll actually show up more if you try doing what you suggested. It'll literally draw attention to it. What you want to dpo is make sure that you're square to the most obvious walls from the door. Especially with the hex, it won't be quite as obvious as you think, unless it's WAY out, and then nothing you can do will hide it, even using a blending color grout. One other thing-- that joint where the floor hits the walls should be caulked, but still caulk it with a caulking that matches the grout, both color AND texture. Does anyone know what the measure is for hex tile and subway? For subway, use unsanded, and for the hex, use sanded.

Regarding my questions about sealing, I contacted Linda Kennedy, National Sales Manager at linda.encore@mac.com. I didn't ask Linda about grout. I didn't have the knowledge to have a discussion with my tiler about sanded vs nonsanded grout & the size of the grout lines. GW provides a great education. I lucked out as my grout lines look great & I don't have any visible lippage. I'm sure you know this but be sure your tiler caulks, rather than grouts, where your tile meets your countertop. Also, not a bad idea to play around with your tiles & lay them out as you want them installed in case your tiler doesn't have an artistic eye regarding the color variation.

The TCNA standards; for all grout joints 1/8" and over use sanded grout. For all grout joints 1/8" and under, use non sanded. You can see at 1/8" you have a choice. Where possible we always use sanded grout as it is stronger than non sanded. Have you looked into Fusion Pro (Custom Blend), Plasma (Laticrete), or Flexcolor CQ (Mapei) as a grout? They are virtually stain proof and require no sealing. SUre they will get dirty, but the color will always be perfect.

I would use white caulk in the corners, not gray. This is because the tile layout should look like the tiles bend around the corners. i.e., half a tile on either side of the corner, or 1/4 on one side and 3/4 on the other side. So a contrasting caulk would cut the tile visually and eliminate the illusion of the bending tile. Also, always caulk, not grout, when you have changes of plane. Finally, as others mentioned, you should not have slivers of tile on the ends or corners. You fix this by shifting the tiles. So on the RH side (I assume this is your first photo), the pattern should be shifted 1/2" to the left, so that in the corner you have full tiles or half tiles, every other row. Then on the left corner the tiles will all be pushed down 1/2" so that the wrapped around portion that's now about 1" becomes 1 1/2" wide.
