has anyone far away from an ikea store used ikea cabinets?
Comments (3)Many years ago, when the closest IKEA was 6 hours drive, we did this. I definitely recommend taking a road trip to see them in person before you order, though. The ones we chose from the catalog didn't look as nice in person, but some we had never considered were fabulous in real life, so we got those instead. The IKEA we used had a kitchen design staff (some do not) so we were assigned one person who helped us coordinate our order. I think this is important as there are so many little parts you might not realize you need. They shipped the whole order to us in a freight truck. It was a great experience. The cabinets were great. Make sure you allow LOTS of time to put them together, if you are DIY. If you're having someone install them, see if you can get a recommendation from Ikea for your town. Many carpenters have no clue how to use the Ikea system. We assembled the boxes ourselves (since it would have negated the savings if we'd hired someone to do so) but had the carpenters install. They could not understand the Ikea instructions and ended up just screwing the boxes to the wall. I would have preferred they'd used the Ikea hager system.... Hope this helps. Comments (17)That's nice! I just had a contractor install Akurum cabinets and put inter-cabinet fasteners in the holes where the hinges need to go, which then had to be removed, and it was difficult to reinsert them elsewhere. I wonder if the roll-out drawers will still be designed so they have to go between hinges, which limits where you can place them in tall pantry cabinets. Some other cabinets I've used have roll-out drawers that don't quite reach the hinged side and have a spacer, so you can put them anywhere. You lose a small amount of width in each drawer though. The Metod cabinets have replaced the light woodgrain box color option with dark brown-black; wonder if that will be offered in the US. Here is a link that might be useful: Ikea Metod intro video...See MoreWho has Ikea's farmhouse sink? (or farmhouse sinks in general)
Comments (9)As far as I can tell, the nig bummer is that its meant to be a partial overmount with a flatish lip that goes over the counter. Unless you caulk well while installing, its moldville under that lip. I like that it's easy to clean and it always looks white. We got a third party grid that helps to keep pot marks away. The LACK of depth is a relief, I like the sink around 8 inches deep. If she uses 1/2 sheet pans frequently, she needs a different sink as this one will not fit those size things. I have a two burner pancake griddle - the cheap non-stick, for home use kind - and it won't fit that. It can sit on the top, and the front and back handles will rest on the sides - so I can still clean the pan. It will fit a regular roasting pan. The other two things that I don't like about the sink is the faucet is very far back (23" or so) in comparison to 19-21" for most undermounts. It acts funny if its filled with ice - just like a glass of iced tea, it will form condensate on the underside of the sink. I imagine that varies with where you live. I will get you a trash pullout picture soon....See MoreHas anyone actually used the Bodarp Ikea cabinet doors?
Comments (121)My daughter used the IKEA Bodarp green kitchen units for her new open plan kitchen extension and sourced some wooden terrazzo worktops, ply handles and oak slats panels to go round the peninsular. Looked amazing when completed. Here are some photos taken during the completion of it....See Moresheloveslayouts
