Double Outlet Questions
Comments (1)Outlets can be configured with one regular outlet and one on a switch. There is a tab on the side of an outlet between the screws that can be removed to have independent outlets in one double. Or it could have gone bad for some reason. The wall outlet could be on a separate line or the lights could be coming off the outlet on the dead side. Replace the outlet. Turning the power off and removing the outlet could answer some questions. To replace the outlet I would get a 20amp back and side wire receptacle. The wires slip behind a plate and then the screw is tightened to pull the plate and wire tight. A lot easier than trying to loop the wire around the screws and tighten. 3 to 5 bucks....See MoreMCB for bathroom light keep tripped.
Comments (6)Years ago I had a home in San Diego. The circuit breaker panel was outside. Most every day in the late afternoon, early evening, a ckt breaker would trip. This CB protected a bathroom and a couple of lights. The breaker would trip even with all of those loads at zero! Oh, and I had aluminum wiring. Turns out it took an electrician to help me out. There was a loose connection(s) in the breaker box such that under the heavier electrical load associated with cooking, electric lights, and the "heat" of the afternoon, the main was overheating. Physically adjacent to the main was the breaker that was tripping frequently. The electrician snugged up all of the breaker box connections and the problem never reoccurred. (I put "heat" in quotes because it was typically 72 degrees... lol)...See MoreInstalling bathroom exhaust fan in tiled ceiling
Comments (13)No attic access? No way to get up there at all? Not a ceiling scuttle hidden in a closet some where?Agree with Joe, we can give guidelines to install the fan, but the wiring is the issue. Do you have a plan for wiring the fan? Probably the easiest would be to extend the wiring from the bathroom ceiling light. Attic access would make it a heckuva lot easier. But barring any out of the ordinary attic framing, extending the ceiling light circuit could be done with a couple of fishing tapes. Is that an option? And then...there are wall exhaust fans. Again, depending on location, electrical would be an issue....See MoreIncorrectly ceiling lights?
Comments (5)First guess is corrosion on a bad connection somewhere, causing low voltage and dimmed lights. When the lamp is engaged the voltage drop is more noticeable. I have had corrosion on a connection in my furnace that caused it to stop working completely. Furnace didnt even attempt to turn on. So I started checking voltages concerning the cabinet switch and found that the wirenut that connected the electric to the furnace was not connected well and corroded. It was pulling around 50 volts before remedied, and 120 afterwards. I would suspect with lights that instead of stopping completely they would dim....See Moremaries1120
