LG washer pounding noise
Comments (67)And now a follow-up to my March 8, 2017 post: after working flawlessly for ALMOST 3 years, the hammer had returned! Upon the advice of a plumber friend, I removed the arresters and shook whatever water that would come out of them out. I then reinstalled and they quieted things down for about 3 washer loads then the pounding started back up again. I came to the conclusion that the gas charge had failed which was verified by the customer service department at Sioux Chief. I was told to put a pencil, etc into the plunger hole and push - if I met with great resistance, the arrester was OK; if the pencil was able to move the plunger, the charge had been lost. My charge was indeed lost. Since the installation was less that 3 years ago, the warranty kicked in and a new set of 2 is to be mailed to me. I was then advised that because I have a newer, high efficiency washer to install 2 arresters per line to lessen the shock and extend their lives. Long story short, I purchased 2 new arresters and installed them; when the replacements arrive, I'll install them in tandem with the original 2. They had better last longer than 3 years - MUCH longer! BTW, Lowe's pricing has risen from $9.99 ea to $ 12.99 ea today!!...See MoreNeed Advise: New Maytag or LG Front-Loader
Comments (8)Try the home depot forum on this subject. I understand people ended up with the motors on the Maytags dying due to a penny getting in the motor. But, I don't know I have the LG, but the water level is not high enough to suit me. I should have gotten the Maytag, I guess, but they cost more. I would like to know the difference, so far the LG did not break down, but it make awful noises when the lode is unbalanced and it sure sound like it is about to break down....See MoreAppropriate water level in LG front loader
Comments (30)It's kinda interesting how many people buy an exciting EnergyStar washer that saves water and energy, I would be guilty of that! I just automatically buy EnergyStar appliances but when it comes to washing my clothes, I WANT WATER! I want enough water for the clothes to freely slosh around in said water. So I bypass all the water saving nonsense two ways. First I use the water station to add a couple of mixing bowls full of water to increase the weight of the clothes, indicating to the washer it needs more water. Then I use the Deep Fill option on +3, +6 or MAX gallons of water and Deep Rinse when necessary. Not every single load requires this but it's nice that I can do it when I need to. GE Top Load. The "use all the water you want" machine. But to really use all the water you want, you have to play mind games with it :)...See Moreyikes! front loader won't spin!!
Comments (30)Looks like it's been the better part of 3 years since this conversation took place, but I'll add what I learned today, since I had this problem and found this page via a google search for the fix, yet did not find the fix explicitly stated on this page. The reason the machine won't spin with a sleeping bag or big quilt in it is because it's trying to spin at Medium spin speed (or faster). At Low spin speed, it'll go! The key is to use the Large/Bulky setting on the control knob. It automatically uses Low spin speed at that setting. You can raise the spin speed up to Medium manually in this mode, but only if you choose Cold wash. I wouldn't risk this with a real bulky load, though. If you've already got to the point of a stalled spin cycle and don't want to start over, turn the machine off, then on again, don't touch the cycle knob but just set the spin speed on Low and then press the Play/Pause button once. It'll spin at Low now. If the spin is stalled even at Low speed, then some of the suggestions above about stablizing the machine, or about the drain tube, may help you. Otherwise you may just need to start the cycle over, or drag the soaking mess to a commercial machine and use that one. Good luck, all!...See Moresspeer9
