Do your 100% Cotton Sheets Cause You To Sweat?
Comments (19)Something else to consider other than just the sheets are the different types of mattresses and mattress pads you cover your mattress with, as well as the weave and fiber content of any blankets you top your sheets with. They have as great a cause and effect on sleeping comfort as do the sheets. We have a memory foam mattress and it holds your body heat really well, which is nice in the winter along with flannel sheets (we don't heat our bedroom) but that warming has the opposite effect in the summer. In the spring we add a mattress pad and sheets from coolingmattress.com and the wicking technology helps keep you cool. When you sweat (and the average person loses about 10% of their water in the form of sweat while sleeping - and people who sweat profusely, even more), the material in the sheets wick the moisture which will make you feel cooler. We use a comforter from the same company in the fall/winter because it helps regulate the temperature - you get neither too cold nor too warm. We like it a lot more than the down-filled comforter we used before getting the comforter from this company. A bit extreme, but we also have "Summer Survival Mats" we can use. They are gel-filled mats that act as a buffer between your body and the mattress to absorb your body heat. Great for that time of the year before you turn the air conditioner on, for camping, or a way to cool down fast without air conditioning. You can watch a video about these mats at cooldownfast.com, along with more information about how they work. -Grainlady...See More200 TC 100% Cotton Muslin Sheets
Comments (9)I haven't bought these particular sheets, and they sound very nice. When I was a young bride, I didn't know a thing about thread count and I bought a sheet set which was either 180- or 200-count. They were impossible to sleep on; were unbearably scratchy, no matter how many times I washed them in mild detergent *and* used fabric softener. Finally, after about a year (we were living on a shoestring then), I broke down and bought more, making sure I bought a higher thread count. Oh, the bliss! Not long ago, I came across a fantastic deal - 100% cotton, 600-thread count sheets *on clearance* for less than $40 at BJ's (a warehouse store). Dear hubby and I were needing a set of sheets for our Q-size bed, so I grabbed them, LOL. They are absolutely luxurious. They do tend to wrinkle in the dryer, so I always get them out just as soon as the dryer chimes and either fold them to put them away or put them on the bed immediately. Dear hubby hardly ever notices anything like that, but he has commented on how nice these sheets feel. Unfortunately, I don't remember the brand name that was on the sheets; I wish I did....See MoreNew question: Anyone have PB Peyton linen/cotton drapes?
Comments (28)OK, so this is kind of embarrassing, after all my debating about what color Peytons to go with.... We were in Boston last weekend and went to a Pottery Barn and bought one panel in the Peyton Chestnut and one panel in the Clay silk dupioni. When we brought them back to Florida and hung them on a pole side by side in our family room/sunroom, the Peyton just seemed too heavy for the room with a texture too similar to our cream-colored sectional (see photos above). Also, we want to be able to push the panels as far out of the way during the day and the silk really seem much lighter and fold up much smaller. So after all this, it looks like we will by going with the bronzey-looking clay silk dupionis after all! Now our big dilemma is whether to go with the 84 inch length panels, which means with the pole and rings they will aang 5 inches above the 82-inch windows (including trim), or spring for the 96-inch ones and go to the expense of hemming them, just to get a few inches more in height. Oh decisions, decisions!!! (yes, I am looking for advice, f anyone wants to look at my photos above.) Thanks. Mollie, can't wait to see how your drapes look -- please post pictures!...See MoreLinen sheets arrived today :-O
Comments (48)Ladies and Gentlemen; Here follows a listing of the companies I have purchased linen/hemp items from... LINOTO- As Alex and Rococogirl stated these are simply wonderful. I have spoken directly with owner and he will modify/change products to suit your needs. When I bought some bath items he gladly made the wash clothes larger by 2 inches since I like a bigger wash cloth. As stated by others European linen cut and sewn in New York City. An organic option for the cloth is available in a number of items. PureClothes/Rawganique- This is my source for the hemp sheets I have. Sewn in Romania the craftsmanship is nearly as good as LINOTO. Many items including bedroom, bath and clothing. Based in Canada. Deutsche Optik- HUH? Yes this vintage military surplus company frequently has authentic linen items from the European Military. I purchased pillow cases from Switzerland, dish towels, pillow cases and sheets from the Czech Republic. Sizes and quantities are limited so you may wait to find something you want. I have never heard of the US military using authentic linen but it appears to be common practice in Europe. This family business is based in Las Vegas, NV....See MoreRelated Professionals
