Up for the Challenge?
Comments (3)I think one of the things to do is get through your garage sale. They are a lot of work and will free up your thinking to move ahead on decorating. My first thought was to move the large armoire to the wall where the white cabinet is. There is a need to go up in some areas and also sight lines when entering your home. With all going on, remove as much furniture as possible from one room at a time and rethink placement. You can lay boxes of their size and get a feeling of walkways, etc. What is it about the couch you do not like. Taking out the corner piece would give you more room space. I am actually intrigued by your furniture and know there are others here that will really help out. You already have your colors in the paintings to work with. Consider a flip top dining table. The are long and narrow, but can be opened to double their size. The tops flip over the main table top and eliminate needing room for chairs to be placed when closed. I have two, one a coffee table and another the dining. They save so much room, but come the rescue for company. Ran a search, but too many different base styles and not sure what you are considering. Great house, I really like the layout and possibilities. Will enjoy other's take on working with you....See Morenew Rug(s) arrived - what do you think?
Comments (80)I typed a response last night by DD borrowed my computer and I forgot to post.:( The rug you have looks good. It doesn't have to stand on its own; it's part of a whole. I am like you (I think). I don't like any one item in my home to stand out, or things to look too decorated and deliberate. I like the yellow rugs for your chairs, but they may be just a tad too much "on the nose." I liked wool sisal for your room, but I love texture. I like everything to meld together to create a calm, comfortable whole. I want people to say "I love this room", not "I love that rug". To me, the later speaks to the luck of a purchase, the former speaks to my ability to create an atmosphere. To me, the addition of the yellow tee-shirt pillow cinched it. But, I agree, the little shelf needs work to fit in. You have good instincts; trust them. Dee...See MoreSmall Condo Furnishing Challenge: Ideas please?
Comments (12)This is just a guess without seeing the floor plan but I think I would be inclined to take the dark granite off the fireplace and make the whole area including the alcove look like one feature wall ...shelving,cabinets and tv. Something simple to jive with the kitchen. Then, I would mostly just ignore trying to make use of just the fireplace section as a feature. It would then be a larger section of feature with the alcove included and you could float some furniture and have better use of the space. Maybe not just like the picture...but you get the idea. Edited to add: this way you could start your area rug all the way down from fireplace toward sliders. It will make your space appear larger....See Moreneed help picking chairs for my nook.
Comments (23)Having now seen photos of other connecting rooms, which are lovely by the way, I think you should choose chairs that are traditional or timeless. Definitely not glam (sorry about my earlier post); and not necessarily mid-century. The nook table is traditional. Your kitchen cabinets, your dining table and dining table chairs are quite traditional (or timeless). Likewise the lights you have over the kitchen counter and dining table, and the lamp in your lounge area. Could you use the chandelier in another room? It's beautiful and traditional, but also very formal so quite eccentric for a breakfast nook. I don't get the sense from your photos that you are decorating the rest of the house with a quirky / eccentric vibe. For the nook, what about a pendant glass light that ties in with the lights over your kitchen counter? Elegant but understated....See More
